New discovery very cool 1943 gpw usn iraq jeep

Serial 124912
Dod 6 4 43
Original army hood numbers 20380052
Usn hood numbers 112866

Also has shipping weights on both sides of the Jeep
Also has Bayoone n,j
This was a navy observer c/o American consulate Basra Iraq
I’ve never seen a Jeep with this much info
Imarked by axe indent it says (Ford 1/4 ton 4x4 reconnaissance truck)

Also if you look closely at the hood pics. You can see where they painted olive drab over the factory hood numbers to cover them up. Also you can see where they painted over the S

I didn’t know any of these markings where on this Jeep when I bought it. Soon as I hit it with the pressure washer, I realized it was covered in markings. Also if you look really close you can see a blue x in top of the hood. I almost bet that the large x was sprayed on there when they surplused this Jeep!! These markings where all covered up with 4 layers of bubba paint
Hard to believe it has survived this long.

Thanks to you and your efforts saving her, it now it has revealed itself .
Just amazing, and no one would have ever known the history.
This also proves that some US Jeeps found here, have indeed served overseas, and have been returned to the USA.
I would look up all the Naval Observer History you can find, and maybe call the US Naval Institute or whatever their historical department is, and ask them to dig up information and pictures of the detachment there, so many years ago.

I wonder if the estate where it was found may have been the naval observer who brought it back ??

This is going to be a real adventure of historical discovery, you will know whose jeep this was !!

Some WWII NAVY G-503 USN Numbers started with 2 digits (94-XXXXX). Am I correct?

Verry nice Jeep! I would certainly try to preserve the jeep, preserve as much of the old colors and fonts as possible.
