1945 GPW 268910

I picked up this nice 45 GPW recently. It spent most of its life in California and is relatively rust free. The serial number is 268910 and the delivery date is May 15th 1945. It was produced in the Dallas plant. Tom was able to give me the original hood number which is 20734887. Sadly, the original engine has been replaced by an f-head engine.

Very very nice, shame about the fhead but that is easily remedied.

Good one, Great to see those late war GPW plain bolts on the windshield arm brackets, another good late war complete survivor!

I have been working on the jeep when I can and have made some good progress. I still have miles to go but I thought I'd share some pictures of the work that has been done so far.

Hello,

WoW unbelievable !!!!!
What an incredible and beautiful Jeep !!!
Well done :D :D !
I can't believe I missed seeing it when you posted her originally

Is your jeep 100 percent rust free ?
It looks like it, congratulations on finding such an outstanding jeep :D :D :D :D !!

Your work looks great, such a nice job, and I am sure she will be ready soon !

I like that Waltham speedometer as well, and noticed many plain head bolts as well, what a time capsule if what an original 1945 GPW should look like.

A true barn find treasure !!

Keep us posted, and Keep 'em Rolling !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Thanks for the kind words Ray! There is one rotted section on the hat channel under the passenger side step. Other than that it's pretty rust free. This jeep spent it's life on a farm near Modesto in California. The climate there is great for preserving old vehicles.

Hello,

That is an easy repair, and a piece can be patched in to fix that.

I am so impressed with the condition of your beautiful Jeep!!!

Keep us posted !!

Ray

Wow you are all in on this guy! I have a very close 268896 but delivered 6 days after yours, also from Dallas. Luckily I don’t have the amount of work to do as yours. But it looks like you have all of the right tools. Have fun.
