I just purchased a 1943 MB in the Black Forest here in Germany. The old German farmer put a one cylinder hit-or-miss engine in it in the late 1940s.

Hello John,

Thanks for posting your 1943 Jeep, it is a great find !!!!
That engine is a very interesting retrofit for the jeep :D :D :D
That took some German Ingenuity to do that, very nice.

Please post some additional pictures of your Black Forest Jeep :D :D :D
A most beautiful area of the world, I hope all is well in Germany !!!!

Best Regards,
Ray

Hit or miss engines are extremely slow. I think 500 RPM's is considered extreme. I wonder how drivable it was?

I pulled the hit-or-miss engine out of the jeep and sold it to a man in Bavaria who needed it to restore his tractor. I have an original MB engine that I will install in the jeep. The jeep will stay in Germany and I will drive it on the U.S. Army post in Wiesbaden.

Well, I needed a T84 for one Jeep and found a "homemade tractor" advertised in the Black Forest on which Jeep parts were used. Jeep axles, steering, drive train including parking brake, T18 and T84 on Jeep cross member as well as clutch and bell housing, pintle hook...for the price of a good T84! I was happy, untill I found out that it was a very special tractor prototype / early model of the later NORTRAK Brand, which was made in an old black smith's shop only 5 mls away from my home!

When I found out that there are only 3 survivors including mine out of about 250 made in 1948/49, I decided to restore it...and still need a T84.
The following two pictures show the Jeep components in OD and the trsctor parts in red primer. It is a "Wille STIER". It also used the split rims with 7.50x16 NDTs and was powered by an air cooled 15 HP twin two stroke JLO engine taken from surpuls Wehrmacht pumps and generators. For some odd reason it is in permanent 4WD ex. factory (Wille), with the engaging lever cut off. To allow for operation on dry surfaces, the front prop shaft was cut and a spring loaded ratched type of "clutch" was added to it, so that it automatically disengages when under stress. Strange mod! As if the Farmers were to stupid to decide on their own when to engage! Only the rear axle brakes via a mechanical system. As customary with tractors, the front axle is pendular. No suspension.

Ja das ist ein unimog aber der gehoert mir nicht.
Back in the '60/'70's there was a car dealer in Sheboygan, WI - Rodewald - Played a Radio Jingle, "Est das ist ein Shoener Car? YA das ist ein Shoener Car!" And ensuing SchnitzelBank play on words.

Musta' been successful, as ad ran for years -
Very large German population in Sheboygan area - many immigrants came over early 19th century - farmed, worked @ Kohler, Polar Ware, & Vollrath. Areas west of town called Schwartzwald, Kiel, Schlessweig, Town Rhine, etc...
Only 2 things in life make it worth livin'
Is old Jeeps tuned good & Firm Feelin women
