I’m pretty sure that all those holes on the front of the block are tapped for 3/8-16 so you should only need to determine the length. I have a timing gear (CJ2A) version of the L-134 disassembled on the bench that I could look at for you: assuming that the bolts are the same.

Thanks Jeff ,

That would be great !!
That way I could get some new bolts from the hardware.

Best Regards,
Ray

I'm wary of any new hardware from places like the hardwre store, but what else is there now...

I got my "morning mile" in, applied a coat of primer to the last front differential, and measured your bolts....and now I'm taking the day off of jeep stuff to make Christmas cookies.

Oh, 3/8-16 X 3/4" is what those bolts are.

Hello Jeff,

Outstanding !!

Thanks for the bolt info , and have fun making those Christmas cookies :D :D .
Keep up your forward progress !
I am guessing the hardened bolts will be ok from Ace.
I can check a few vendors to see if they carry them, but I haven't seen any.

I bought a stash (about $1200 worth!) of Caterpillar bolts a couple of years ago in all the common jeep sizes, using the Claude Pons list as a guide. I'm nearing the end of my stash as I near the end of my WWII jeep projects. When it comes to my other Willys vehicles I'll probably have to buy a new stash of hardware. I chuck them up in a cordless drill and dress the Cat brand on the disc sander to make them plain and then contour the head to match a plain GPW bolt I keep there as a guide, but they still retain the high head of the Ford and Willys bolts from WWII.

Jeff,

That is pretty nice !!
Always good to have high quality bolts on hand !

I bet the new stash may cost more than when you bought the last one

Hello,

I am getting ready to clean up and repaint the engine front mounting plate.

I buffed off some paint already as pictured.
I am wondering if priming and painting the entire plate is the usual practice, or should the gasket mating surfaces be bare metal ?

It would be a good idea to know this before repainting 😀 !

Resized_20221205_075428.jpeg
I don't want any rusty surfaces, and don't know whether painting will enhance the effectiveness of the gaskets , or interfere with their effectiveness.

There is a little fine pitting that is in the area of the gasket.

I will have to figure it out,
any ideas ?

Ok I decided to prime and paint the mounting plate.

It came out great !

Update : I just noticed that the stud that the generator spring hooks to is missing from the mounting plate ~~
I will have to locate one of those, or take one off another jeep !

Best Regards,
Ray

Ray,
I'm truly impressed by your attention to detail at every step along the way and your perseverance throughout this restoration journey. Having spent >3 years on my GPW restoration, I have a better appreciation for those of us that have taken on this effort to restore history!

Keep up the excellent work!

Hello,

Thanks so much Todd !!

You as well have shown the dedication and commitment with your great jeep efforts !
It certainly takes time, more that one would expect, to get parts restored, but I love it, and I am sure you do as well, seeing things really come together, and figuring things out as we go.

We are about at the same point on our projects, I have some engine and power train work to finish, as well as some final body work.

It will be a great day when it is done :D :D :D
I have already started on the next jeep, and have more after that :D .

I think once we get in the groove of restoration, an additional project goes much faster with our new found knowledge and skills.

Keep up your great work, your last jeep update was very impressive !

Keep 'em Rolling !!!

Hello,

I was looking for a F script bell housing , as I have 2 MB ones, and looked under one of the jeeps in the barn, to stash more parts, and Voila, there was one sitting there.

You know you have too much clutter and get so many parts, you forget you have them !!
I have been buying parts when I see them over the years, it is always nice to be able to finally restore and use them on a jeep !!

😀😀😀 !

Also, a neighbor who is a retired Iowa farmer, called me and said he bought the wrong generator for his 55 CJ5, and wanted to know if I wanted this one for my project.

I said yes indeed !!

He is bringing it over tomorrow morning, very nice guy !

It is always good to get the right parts when you need them !
GPW stamped right on the tag 😀.

Super hard to find !!

Here it is, delivered this morning !

Hello,

Today I media blasted the F script bell housing I found under my British Jeep, that I forgot was there.
It looks to be in great shape, and took a little blasting to get it cleaned inside and out.
I am so happy to have found this to use on the jeep !

I will install a new starter bushing in the housing, once I get that part here.
The one in there does look good, but I will replace with a new one in case there is some wear.
Resized_20221208_173956.jpeg
A nice F script with a 2 next to it.
Resized_20221208_174011.jpeg
GPW and a number on the other side.

We can also see that this has the raised boss, with a threaded hole for the hand brake cable to attach.

I am painting both the inside and outside with New Ford Gray paint.

Dupli-Color makes it, and it matches the original Ford paint used in WW2.
This is what the engine is painted with as well, and it makes for a beautiful, hard enamel paint finish with a ceramic additive.
Great stuff !!

One more step completed on the way to the restoration goal !!
One more lone part that was obtained from some parted out jeep, saved and restored, to go back where it belongs, on a Jeep :D :D

Hello,

I am really liking this awesome fire extinguisher bracket from Ron, he has the good stuff !!
It is the early model with 1 strap.

A JMP F scripted bracket for the Jeep !

It is real nice !!
Resized_20221210_152738.jpeg

I am now priming and painting it, but it is nice right out of the box.

If you need one for your early GPW, Ron has them in stock.

Now I will find a nice FX on ebay to put in there 😁.

And the Big Boy arrived today, thanks Frank for delivering it here to the 70th Division Motorpool !!
Above and beyond the call with a 3 hour drive , each way !!

She has been saved as a complete project , as well as a French return Dodge 6x6 that another restorer stepped up to save and fully restore, after Frank got it rescued .

What a great way that it has worked out to save 2 awesome WW2 Dodges !!

There is nothing like a Dodge WC rescue to work toward preserving our Heritage !

This is a 1942 Model Command Car, and thanks again Frank for this and all your great parts !!

Plus last month a G member in Florida got a nice WC-52 from him.

That makes 3 Dodge projects saved !!

I love it when a plan comes together !!

Now back the the awesome Jeeps !

Best Regards,
Ray

Ha !!

They are out there !!

WW2 seems to ground to a halt in my yard with all the vehicles :D :D :D
Projects enough to focus on, for now !!

But you know how it is, when you see something that needs to be saved, you save it !!

Keeping these treasures from being lost is what we do !!

Keep 'em Rolling ... Always !!!!

I was about to have to get the 6x6 , but another restorer with experience in them will now restore it.

I love it !!

Best Regards,
Ray
