Hi Ivan,
Welcome to the "G" and into your new addiction!
The chassis number is not correct and original to a wartime Willys MB as there should be 6 digits between 100000 and about 475000.
The MB chassis number is originally fitted to a small plate on the inside of the left hand frame horn just behing the bumper and not stamped on the frame rail. That was usually done later to comply with vehicle rules in some countries.
This stamping could be an engine number or something else completely.
Body looks interesting as it has some "right" features, but also a lot of modifications including glass fibre over everything.
Engine and gearbox (T90?) with PTO is wrong anyway.
Unless it is very cheap, I would leave it, as you will need a lot of money and search for many parts to make it complete and correct.
Good luck with your quest!

Well motor and horn are not MB /GPW. The gearbox is though - and has a late parking brake drum, and also looks to be fitted with a PTO. The frame is MB but I don't recognise the frame number stamping - not jeep. There looks to be quite a few original bits on it.
Others may notice more.

Hi people
Thank you very much for your reply.
Is it possible that the diesel engine was installed by an authorized Jeep repair company after the war? I saw some models with a Waiblingen ordnance rebuild shop tile.
I know there is a lot of work but I think it is a good base for reconstruction.I am now in the negotiation phase with the owner so I will see what happens. A few more pictures.

Ivan
Looks to me there is a lot of original parts still remaining. I would get every nut, bolt, and all the lose parts laying around the jeep.
Too many times I would not take the extra's and would need them later.
How much are having to pay for it. I live in the US, in the state of Washington.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing your progress.

Hello Ivan,

Welcome to the great G503 !!!
You look like you have found a great Jeep project !
Yes get all the parts, and ask for leads for any more local parts that the seller may know of like an engine.

The diesel engine was not fitted in that Jeep by any US Army Rebuild Depot.
I would look for am MB engine, or even you could use a post war CJ, or a French M201 engine
if you can find any.
There is another poster here on the G from Serbia, and he may have an extra engine for sale or may be able to let you know someone that has one in your region.
Also there are many, many, European G members that can help you find parts suppliers
all over Europe.

You found this jeep just in time, as it needs a restoration !!!!
With a welder, a grinder, and some tools, you can get her back into shape :D :D :D
Metal repair panels for the rear wheel wells are available from all parts dealers, and all parts are plentiful and available as well.
You can also get some 18 gauge metal and make small repair patches to weld in where needed.

Keep us posted on your negotiations, and best of luck to you !!!

Best Regards,
Ray

Hello Ivan!

This is a verry nice restoration object!

The engine looks like a mercedes benz om 636 from the first unimog. this engine was mounted often from farmer use here in europe.

good look

Hi to all
The owner is asking for 4,000 euros. It seems to me that is too much, since it does not have the original engine and is not completely complete. My offer is 2000 euros. Now it is up to the owner to think.
As for welding, sanding and painting it is not a problem because I do it almost every day.
The car was bought from the former Yugoslav Army in 1988.The current owner is the second owner after the purchase and thought of restoring it but never did.
According to the papers, the chassis number is 370162 and the engine number is 58319.There are no data plates on the car.
If I buy it, where can I get all the data plate and which ones should be, because I see there are age differences?

Ivan,
There is a fun Hollywood movie "Kelly's Heroes" from 1970 that was filmed in the western part of Istria.
To make the movie, a lot of WW2 era jeeps (and other vehicles) were borrowed from the Yugoslavian Army.
Maybe this is one?

Hello Ivan,

Your offer is the right price, you should get it for that offer.
If not, keep on trucking !!
There are plenty of them all around your country and Europe.

The best data plates in my opinion are from www.dataplates4u.com
I just bought some for my GPW and they are perfect !!
He is located in Holland and also makes hood number stencils and other stuff.

Kelly's Heroes is a great movie !!!

Best Regards,
Ray

That's such a nice catch you got there! If the price is a little too high for you, maybe do as you've been advised from a fellow member.
Got a 1943 Willys MB jeep from my granddad.
Love to play military type games, like paintball and strikeball. And when granddad gave me the car, I was over the top. However, I'm new to all that's going on so the car has been underneath an indoor car cover and I'm here to lurk around and get advice on what to do with the car.

I would look for another one. That Jeep needs a lot of time and parts to bring it back to original.

Paying a higher amount for a more complete Jeep is really the best way to get a good candidate for a restoration.
