The rear pumpkin light really works great !!
I've not heard them referred to as "pumpkin lights" before? Always interested in these nicknames, do you know where that would have come from?

Do you have a source of those lights ?

I have the big round British switch on my dash, and remnants of the light on the rear.
They come up on ebay here and there but I think are becoming a bit scarce. I have one more for my mortar trailer that I am restoring, BNIB, and may have another somewhere in the stash. If I do find one I'll let you know..

I've seen the switches on the dash but was under the impression that was a post war modification. Sorry if you have done so before, but I'd be interested in photo's if you have any you are able to share?

That rain gutter is a really good idea as well .
I know, great really! I've seen them on a few British jeeps at shows here in the UK. I think it was a post war mod as well but happy to use a bit of artistic licence when it comes to dates!

Hello Oz,

Here in the USA, many refer to the differential as the "Pumpkin", well at least in New Hampshire, where I am from,
thus I called it a Pumpkin light :D :D

That would be great if you can find a"spare" light or even a parts unit :D :D
I will look on the UK ebay to see if I can get some of the items.

On my British jeep, that round knob is mounted on the dash, to the left side.
The pumpkin is also painted white, and had OEP 220 stenciled on the cover.
(OEP = Oil Extreme Pressure )

There were 3 "known" USA based British jeeps.
1 of the 3, is now back in Great Britain, owned by another G member, CharlieGPW.
His is still in original post war condition, and is a real treasure !
There may be a few more out there ?
We sort of made a good information post on another G members restoration thread on his "Number 2" British Jeep.
MadCoLars posted some good pictures of my British Jeep features on the post.
As it was then, and is now, a little hard to get at for new pictures :D

It is a great post, and you can see all 3 jeeps have that knob on the dash.
All 3 jeeps were rebuilt by the British, 2 confirmed as rebuilt in Germany.
My jeep pics are on page 3, with the later shade of green on it still.

An update on my jeep, it is actually an all 1943 GPW, (not a 42 Willys with a Ford frame, as I once thought).
The body is an ACM 1, but its serial number is from late 43 production, when Ford started using the ACM early Willys type bodies for a short time.

Interestingly, the fire extinguishers were relocated to next to the driver's seat, on the slope of the wheel well.

Keep up your great works Oz !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Hello, can I ask a few questions re your Jeep, firstly what age is your MB? why I am asking I am in Glasgow, have a 45 MB which has recently been restored (not by me sadly) It came home without a seal and clamp from the cross over tube to the air horn and when I queried this I was told by the company who restored it that the clamps that are currently available are the wrong size and do not fit. However according to some gentlemen on this site from across the pond, that may be due to an aftermarket airhorn, I take it you still have your original one? Anyhow I am veering off from the point, where did you buy your rubber seal and clamp from?

Hi, my jeep is February 1943, the crossover and air horn are original, see pictures below, orange arrows

These were refurbished and are in use.. note the dent on the air horn! again, orange arrows

The rubber connectors, blue arrows above, I think came from jeeparts-uk.co.uk listed as "Carb Horn Seal - Rubber" and "Seal from Carb Horn to Carb". I know I struggled to get the correct clamp that goes over the rubber, air horn and carburetor, but I think atlanticjeepart.co.uk have them "MB/GPW - Clamp - Air Horn - A281 - 1941/45, so that should do the job!

Hello OzH,

First, your engine bay looks awesome, plenty of hard work there !!

Well I looked on UK Ebay and found a British trailer plug unit there, and was happy to have won the bid.
Now I will have a unique missing British part for the jeep when I get to the restoration.

Thanks for the info on locating one !
Now I have to find a light.

It looks nice, like the one on your jeep .

I've not posted for a while but thought I'd show off my latest addition

I bought a British 10CWT mortar trailer just before lockdown and have been gradually restoring it

Took it on it's first outing last Saturday, it's empty, but towed like a dream!
