Now all the chassis work has been completed it was time to get the tub back on
I pushed the chassis out of the garage, winched the tub up as high as I could get it (garages in the UK aren't that high!) and rolled the chassis back in, then it was just a case of carefully lowering the tub back down... worked treat!
Pictures below is tub just sat on the chassis
Keen eyed viewers will spot the new bolt kit and the frame pads ready to go once I'd drilled new holes through the repaired floor panels
Prior to refitting the tub I did fix a bit of damage on the tail where something had been clamped in the past
The insert it just sat in the gap

Great work!
I notice that you put the body on before fitting the steering box & column. It will be a pig to fit now with everything being in the way.
Easiest will be to remove the outer tube from the steering shaft when fitting as that gives you some extra "wiggle room" and fit the outer tube from the inside once the steering is in.

Hi Klaas, I didn't read your reply until after I had re-fitted the steering box!! I have the driver side wing off at the moment and put some rags in the steering column hole on the tub to protect the paintwork and just did a lot of wiggling.. took a while but it's back in OK..Klaas wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 9:04 amGreat work!

Connecting everything up, installing the seats and any other bits that have to hand..
and the started her up.. bleed the fuel line and she started on the second turnover..
Drove out of the garage, let her tick over for 20 minutes or so and reversed back in
Can't tell you how happy I am right now!!!

There is something magical, mystical and spiritual that happens when we get that wonderful jeep driven for the first time, or started for the first time after an arduous journey. CONGRATULATIONS. We share your happy time!

You ..... have done and are doing a magnificent job restoring your jeep !!!
Saving it, and preserving for at least another 70 years into the future
What a great tribute to our wonderful WW2 Veterans and all they have done for us !!
The WW2 Veterans always love to see their old chariots of Liberation and Victory saved from the clutches of the elements,neglect,
indifference, abuse, and you name it !
Your jeep was taken very good care of by its former owners, you have restored its youth, and now it is your turn to take it on great adventures and make new chapters in its long adventurous history through the decades !
It is a great feeling to know that it is all yours now, and you have the adventures in front of you !!
Did this jeep come off a ranch in the USA or was it a local find ?
Do you have any of the history on the jeep ?
I was so amazed at a recent G503 member's posting of his jeep, that has been in the family since the end of WW2, and where it has traveled to, around the world !!
What a history to still have for his family's jeep, and the jeep is still in great shape !!

This first set of pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago, lots of installation work has gone on
I then got some marking on. I had always planned to go for a British Jeep and from the research I have done, M555 were ex US Army jeeps handed over to the the Brits. I picked up the blackout headlight cover from the last Dallas Digout..

Lots of fun over the Easter weekend, any excuse to go out on the Dorset roads in the jeep..
Markings are for 43rd Wessex Division, Divisional Signals vehicle. 43rd Wessex is the local Division to me and I spent some time in the Signals..
Markings are magnetic so can easily be changed..!

Your choice of hood number markings is great, looks really nice and stands out from the usual
I really like it, and the British Unit Markings on the windshield look beautiful, and add such nice color to the jeep !
I will need to get similar markings painted on my Desert Rat jeep when I get it done.
Plus I have to pick up the windshield someday too.
Your jeep really looks incredible, and is an inspiration to all of us, who are still working on our jeeps

Great work.
A couple of questions - what did you use to reinforce the front top hat channels, and whose paint did you use?
The driver's seat looks as though it has been bent back to accomodate something slightly more substantial than the average WW2 43rd Wessex squaddie.

The hat channel reinforcement was just something I came up with, I found 2cm x 1cm steel tubing at Wickes that fitted almost perfectly, with some weld through undercoat it was welded into the channel.

The channel across the rear was made for me by a local engineering firm, I took in a rusty piece of scrap an they produced the top had channel, I then boxed it in, again, with Wickes stock steel
I know its not Oak but who'd know??
