Hello,

That is too bad about your engine issue, but now you can build the correct MB engine, and you look to have a nice start.

That Indian oil pump looks very nice, I have seen some nos parts from India on ebay.
Maybe I will get some ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

The GPW engine can be rebuilt, and kept for a future project jeep, or sold to someone that needs a gpw engine.

Keep us posted, and good luck !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Everything is back in and hooked up

Fluids added, checked and rechecked

Started second time! - result!

Went for a short gentle drive

I lost oil pressure and found I had a considerable amount of oil leaking from the rear main oil seal - drip tray deployed

I read a tonne of forums and started to check through possible issues, the first was the pressure valve on the NOS oil pump

Turned out it was stuck solid, can't budge it. I had another pump to hand, put that in, now had good pressure but still a bad oil leak

Next, step, drop the oil pan to see what I can of the main bearing seal, possibly reseal.. I hope!

Hello Oz,

Wow what a surprise with the rebuilt engine !!!
I am glad you found it was the "nos" oil pump, that is crazy !
If you came through with only a rear seal leak, that is a big win, and your engine is ok.

Good luck and keep us posted, I really like the look of your jeep :D :D :D :D
A job, very well done !

I also like your brick workshop, a beautiful thing :D :D :D

PS-
My British Jeep's original hood number is M6078995
It is a GPW, and I also found the British rebuilt in Germany, GPW engine that once was in it.
It belonged to the 5th RTR.
I would love to find an original picture of it during the War !
In Normandy or Germany :D :D

Its post war number hood number is 91YH98.

It was found in update New York.

Ray

Sadly, the engine is back out. I'm going to have a serious discussion with the rear main seal!!

Hopefully some better news over the coming weeks

Love the history of your jeep. I'd love to know more about mine. The blue hood number is original, It had been painted on at least 3 times and I left the original light blue under the new paint

The M number is made up, but I believe that any US service jeeps handed over to us Brits had a British serial number starting with M555

The body had not been off, body, hood and chassis numbers are all from around February 1943 so it won't have been rebuilt in Europe after the war, so I assume, probably didn't make it to Europe. I'd love to know where it did serve..!

Hello Oz,

Good luck with the engine gaskets !
It should be pretty straight forward procedure .

It is a lot of work getting it in, and out again, but that is what we do ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚ !

That is great you have the original blue numbers !
Was your jeep found in Europe, or imported more recently ?

Hopefully you will find a random picture of it someday from WW2 !

Finally got the rear seal to.. seal.. took 4 attempts which was quite frustrating. I tried a number of seals from different manufactures, but have lost track of which one actually worked!

Had a few nice trips out in the good weather and continued with "Britishising" my jeep

I found some details on the British update to the rear convoy lighting and British trailer socket, I had to make the bracket, but it all looks good and the switch enables me to go back to the regular convoy lights

I had seen these engine rain gutters on a few jeeps at shows and thought about making one but came across this one on ebay

Hello ,

That is great news that you got the seal fixed, after many versions !!

Wow, your British effects looks outstanding, just awesome !!
The rear pumpkin light really works great !!

Do you have a source of those lights ?

I have the big round British switch on my dash, and remnants of the light on the rear.

That rain gutter is a really good idea as well .

Keep up your great work !!!

You have a masterpiece ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ !!

I've not heard them referred to as "pumpkin lights" before? Always interested in these nicknames, do you know where that would have come from?

They come up on ebay here and there but I think are becoming a bit scarce. I have one more for my mortar trailer that I am restoring, BNIB, and may have another somewhere in the stash. If I do find one I'll let you know..

I've seen the switches on the dash but was under the impression that was a post war modification. Sorry if you have done so before, but I'd be interested in photo's if you have any you are able to share?

I know, great really! I've seen them on a few British jeeps at shows here in the UK. I think it was a post war mod as well but happy to use a bit of artistic licence when it comes to dates!
