I finally had some time to find the serial number on the transmission. It looks like January 24, 1945. Would this be the original transmission? I'm guessing that the transmissions were assembled at a different location and shipped to the factories to be installed in the jeeps. That would be less than three months between the DoD of the jeep and the transmission. Does that make sense?

I think you've interpreted the date correctly. My transmission was machined about a week before the Jeeps DOD. From what I've seen that was pretty typical in mid 1944 when my Jeep was made.

Hmmm....not a bad set up you found there...however I would question a January 24, 1945 Transmission hanging around until it was put into an April 1945 MB….I see the block is cast 4-6 (April 6th) which would be a week from the DOD and that would not be a problem, but a T-84 that was made about what...15 weeks before the jeep rolled out might be a stretch.

Right off I'd say, check the T/C to see if it is an Ford or Spicer and check other April 1945 MBs to see what the date on their T84 is.

I have this jeep now, working on finding a frame as the original is way too far gone. If you look at the pictures you can see the spring mounts are rusted right off. Plus the tranny crossmember was rotted through.

Hi Adam,

I have same date on my transmission, my GPW has dod 10-may-1945.

But I am quite sure that my transmission is replaced in meantime. My jeep was fully rebuilt in 50' by army, so most probably is replaced.
