WW2 Willys Jeep Crated

Post by Kiers419 » Sun Mar 04, 2018 1:26 pm

Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy a crated 1945 willys jeep. I wanted some advice on what to look for as im not familiar with military vehicles. Its been dry stored in california and in original condition.

Does anyone know how many of these are left and what would the value be ? Any help would be great.

Thanks

$50
Well that's what all the ad's have said since WWII....
-It's a crated WWII jeep that no one would be bothered to have uncrated in 73 years.
-It's been stored inside for 73 years,,,,
-No moisture or air got to it in 73 years.
-It was stored above ground away from insects for 73 years so the crate did not get eaten by termites.
-The guy that told you about it has no photos, no one owns a cell phone that visits the place they are at.
-The guy that told you about it says it's at his Cousins Brother-In- Laws place where it they had a dozen of them and are only NOW wanting to unload one for a cheap few hundred dollars as they never heard of anyone driving a WWII jeep so they must be fairly worthless and they need beer money.
-The guy lives in Russia, (or any former Soviet Block nation) and they had so many surplus there that the Russians (etc.) never needed to uncrate them so it's a good deal but only if you send a few grand right now via money order to hold one for you.

This could go on and on, but I think the "Bounty" placed out there for a truly crated jeep was $100,000 a few years back (like 20+), and not those that were sunk enroute overseas. Obviously no one has a crated jeep out there, they would be immediately uncrated, assembled and driven around if they existed, as even a stupid ATV is going for $15K now.

Good luck in this quest, may you be the 1st guy since WWII era short of Joel to uncrate your new jeep. I'd ask for a photo with a recent newspaper in front of it

Run, do not walk as far away as you can from this crated Jeep.
There was a pawn shop in Orilla Ontario that advertised new WWII Jeeps in crates of three in Shot Gun News a few years back. $500.00 deposit would get you in the running.
I have a start on a Crated MB, a NOS rear Axle Assy., and a NOS Crated A-1195 Transfer.

Hi all,

I understand all of your concerns as im questioning things myself. My father in law is bought 5 and they are currently in shipping from california to the u.k.

He asked if i would like one so just finding out some more details. I will be seeing them soon and will decide then. Obviously, they are not cheap so want to do extra checks.

Are there any known models or vehicle numbers that are registered as still crated? They have been dry stored in california and my father has been to check them out.

Will update with pictures when i can

Cheers

And of course 5 are on the way to the UK...all remaining Jeeps in the world are on the way to the UK as we pay far too much for them!!

I have been hearing these sightings from true believers for over 6 decades. They are all about the same, only big difference are the characters telling their story. Take it from where it comes, it ain't costing you a nickel.

Hmmm...I hope you didn't let your FIL pay for them sight-unseen. You and he may have been the victims of a Nigerian scam artist. Under what circumstances did your FIL actually decide to purchase five of them? No offense, but those of us in California have pretty much tracked down all the possible sources for jeeps and Jeeps In Crates are generally second-hand stories.

Post the pics your FIL had as I suppose he purchased them based on some kind of photos.

Hi all,

Sorry, i was busy catching up on some English lessons lol. All 5 are now in the U.K now. The jeeps were part of a private collection and were never advertised to the public. The previous owner is good friends with my FIL who is also a collector. The money paid is in line with the rough value guides ive been asking people so not cheap.

I will post some pics when i get chance to visit them but wont be for a while as i work away.

Thanks for all your comments and help

Cheers
