Re: jeep mb 267831
Hello,
What a nice jeep with D-Day history !!!
Keep it as an "Original" restoration and preserve it !!!
What is the USA hood number ?
Post that then we could look for it in D-Day photos and videos .
I can see it is there, blue drab numbers.
Best Regards,
Ray

Here's a few pic's of some hood's found in Germany a few mo's ago, they are thought to have been at Normandy. you might compare the star's and prestone marking's with yours. I feel sure their were several diff. GI's that painted the marking's on these jeeps so they all may not be uniform.
You have the right idea, fix it to run and stop and don't touch the paint, a wonderful find.

Re: jeep mb 267831
stere58,
My understanding is the yellow star's were put on some of the jeep's for the 6 June invasion, but all of the jeep's did not have the yellow stars on them.
I feel sure the yellow star's were left on the jeep's for the rest of the war, would not make any since to remove them for the time and trouble it would take etc.
I think the only way to tell if it was a Normandy jeep is to some how get it's hood number and compare it to some of the WW-2 pic's, and their are many to look at, maybe even get close to one of the hood's in the pic. I posted.
What a find if you could prove it was there on 6 June, to me it very well could have been there, if it could only talk.
Just wish you could get a hold of Tom, was a member here at one time, he is the number's GURU. [serial and hood number's].
