Re: MB379881 story
Hello
Once the driver side and floor reinforcing (see previous post) were done I put the tub on the frame in order to have it straight when putting in the toolbox panels.
I did not take any pictures of the process.
However you can see the toolbox panels installed in the next picture (not on frame ):
Now everything was ready for the rear panel.
This is what it looks like before welding:
You can barely see it on the picture but there was a gap of about 3 mm between the rear panel and the passenger side (the panel was 3 mm short or my tub with all the repairs was 3mm too wide?). Luckily it was not to wide
In order to fill the gap (and not have to 'force' the rear into a close fit), I did put a steel batten or ruler (do not know the english word) of 3 mm thick and with a width and lenght equal to the side of the rear panel in between.
After welding and painting it will be impossible to see this (if I do it right ).
Some pictures from the inside (before welding):
Driver side:
Passengers side (with the steel insert):
and finally one picture of the rear welded in and a detail picture of one side (where one barely sees the steel insert):
That is it for now. Next report will probably be about the windshield repair. We will see .....
Greetings
Hans

Re: MB379881 story
Looks good, but I believe the rear panel isnt welded all over, it's more like strips of 1 inches long welds.
Like this :
Zeph's restoration. Great work nonetheless!

Re: MB379881 story
Hello Boyso,
Thank you for the good comment.
I knew that it is not welded all over and I did not weld it all over but I did more than 1 inch . Maybe 3 top and bottom. There must have been a reason that I did so much but I do not remember.
If 1 inch it is, 1 inch it will be ... (next time ).
Thanks
Hans

Re: MB379881 story
Hello Luc,
Ja, inderdaad, ik ben in mijn pen gekropen nu ik technisch werkloos ben
Toffe foto's.
Groeten
Hans
Sorry for those who don't read Dutch, but do not worry, nothing of any importance has been shared ...

Hello Hans, realy impressive what you are doing, i hope to meet you one of the days, i have also finaly took the big decision. Believe me after 3 years searching and seeing many Willys it was stil hard but I feel happy and released now.
It's a MB begin '43.
Such projects like yours and Luc's will encourage me. Compared to your tub, mine is new but still needs welding
I will also start a topic with my story when I have mine at home.
Regards
Bart

Hello Bart
Thank you for the comments.
Did you buy the MB that was discussed in your post a couple of years ago?
Or did you find another one?
I am looking forward to your restoration story and pictures
Where in Belgium are you?
