Re: GPW 62312 in Iceland
Like Adam said, there was a military winterization kit that included a top and heated the interior. However, again as Adam said, I doubt it would keep you as comfortable in the cold as your existing top.
You could resotre it partially military with the Olive Drab and numbers, as well as correct military hardware and colors on everything with the exception of the top. Just an idea. Are there many jeep owners in Iceland?

I dont know, as I live in an isolated fishing village on the west coast. Are there many jeep owners in Iceland?
I do not know any GPW or MB in my area but there are some CJ.
There are 2 owners that I know of from here, "Viking27" and "hallif".
I am a member of The Antique Automobile Club of Iceland
but I have not been active there.

CJ MB GPW...all close enough so you folks can keep them going. I had some experience with motorcycling in Iceland, and it is a remote, large hunk of rock and ice in the middle of the North Atlantic. Your best option would be to learn to keep it going yourself if the others are not nearby.

Re: GPW 62312 in Iceland
I've been looking at the colors on my GPW.
The dominant color is blue like on the instrument panel and other shade of blue is inside the glove-box and on the firewall inside. Also the blue color is dominant in the engine compartment but I can see the OD under the blue like where the oil can bracket has been removed and on the air cleaner.
Since Icelanders have no military, I know nothing of their cars or colors used in armed forces. There was an American military base in Keflavik, probably navy or air-force, can the blue color have been used by them?
So it looks that the frame might have been light gray or gray-blue. Is this known?
I believe that the GPW was in service until 1951 as that is the year that it is posted as new in Icelandic car-registration. While me missing evidence for this as official Automobile Inventory is not available in computerised form but till 1980. Older material can be found in National Archives requiring serious research.
I know it looks like I cannot be bothered to acquaint myself with this issue on the forum, but the truth is that I have not yet learned my way around the forum as I am a new member since May 03, 2013.

Yes, I have seen many jeeps painted blue. The USAF color is blue, Navy jeeps were powder blue as well. The OD colour is the first color over the primer out of the factory, the respective branches then painted them thier required colour. To more easily answer your question, look in the jeep photos or jeep historical research areas and they have vintage photos showing the respective vehicles. You may also wish to view the photos in the jeeps used by the Navy and USMC.

Já, ég hef séð margar jeppum máluð blá. The felldi bandaríkjaher litur er blár, Navy jeppum voru duft blár eins og heilbrigður. The OD litur er fyrsti litur yfir grunnur út úr verksmiðju, viðkomandi útibú máluð þá þá Reglunni þarf lit.

I got a few pictures from one former owner. I believe they are from 1954.
These show how the jeep looked when bought from Military Surplus.
Window frame and canvas from M38 and the colour on the jeep is blue although the B/W pictures do not show that well.
Blackout light used as a farmer should do.
Civilian pintle hook which is still there.

Kristjan,
That is a very nice GPW! Welcome! It doesn't seem to be as rusty as most from around here. Was it used inland, away from ocean salt spray?

Iceland is an island and not a large one. (In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.)
Inhabitants are scattered around the coastline but few inland.
I and my GPW have spent most of our time in a small fishing-village on the west coast.
It is rusted all right, the front floor, gas-tank sub and hat channels. The frame is ok I hope, has not had thorough inspection in years. Left front fender is bad around support structure.
My biggest concern is that the body has been cut down to accommodate the doors when the heavy wooden top was construct.
Kristjan.
