Hello,

That is what I like to see, find a problem and eliminate it :D :D :D
Very nice work, and now the race is on to getting things added onto the body, and repairs finished :D :D

I can see the checkered flag in the distance :D :D :D

Best Regards,
Ray

Some previously undiscovered rot and loads of rot on the driver side fender brace.

Might be easier to just order a new JMP one, I'll have to see if Ron has the cowl pillar in stock soon.

Also did a deep clean of the garage, I think my mental health needed it

Hello,

Having just done a similar fender repair x 2, it is certainly a rewarding task.
If you use your spot welder it is an easier task.

Here is the link to my post, viewtopic.php?f=96&t=315065
I put a lot of fender repair pictures there.

I found that if you are going to add a section, to the existing hat channel brace, the JMP brace that I got was a little different dimension than the original GPW one, but I happened to have an nos M38 one that I cut the section out of, as it was a perfect match.
The only difference on the the section of the M38 piece I used was that the bolt holes to the frame were slightly larger diameter.
But not an issue and likely will provide a little more adjustment room when remounting.

One fender I had to replace the complete brace, and used the entire JMP brace, but I did have to add a section to the lower backing plate on the JMP one, as their backing plate was incorrect.
You can see the brace issues reviewed in my post, but they were easily repaired :D :D
The other fender, I patched a piece of the "same depth spec" M38 brace, into a section of original Gpw brace, and preserved the original spot weld appearances, on the flat, top section of the fender, that wasn't rusted away or damaged. It was a perfect match between the 2 pieces.

Keep up your great work !!

Best Regards,
Ray

I had almost the same problems to fix on my tub and the fenders.
Seems to be weak points.

Sorry for the lack of updates,

Life/pandemic is getting in the way and its been hard finding the motivation to get a few hours in.

Got an order incoming from Ron with a new driver side brace.

Next step is gettign the last few holes drilled in the tub, getting the cowl supports and painting the whole thing when it gets warm enough.

Also ordered the wiring clips so that hopefully when the tub gets back on, its for the last time ever.

Nice job !
To protect your mental health, it's better to focus on your jeep than on that endless pandemic.
Are there again restrictions to move from a sub-region to another one in Quebec ?

Yeah, thankfully right now the region where I live and where the cabin is are both red zones so we're free to travel, but curfew is at 8 pm. I can't go to an orange zone or to another province or the US.

Unfortunately I'm moving out next week (I was relocated to Montreal for work, lived at my parents while the sale and purchase of my old/new condos was taking place) and now since I'll be at a separate address, I might not be able to go to the cabin for the foreseeable future.

The rules are changing weekly so fingers crossed.

Thankfully everyone but me in the family has been vaccinated and hopefully my turn will be within a month.

Hope things are going well in Belgium !

Hello,

Your fender repairs are looking great !!!
Keep the Faith, and hopefully the virus will be gone in another year or so.
I understand Canada has some serious restrictions in place now.

For me it is like being on Gilligan's Island, trying to stay busy but stuck here, without Ginger😀
I do drive around and explore roads I never went on, to see what is out there, but haven't actually been anywhere in over a year.
Here in Florida people can do what ever the want, with no restrictions.

Freedom is very important, and with it does go responsibility as well.

But.....
I drive by restaurants and bars, packed full, and almost nobody with masks. Beaches are full, stores are full.
I don't understand how so many people I see don't even take minimum precautions, as in zero !
I see people pumping gasoline bare handed, while eating a sandwich.
No masks, no gloves, and no hand sanitizers seen , as people get done and drive away.
Some areas people are wearing masks, but surrounded by others that don't. At least they should maintain some distances , or try to, but it appears even that is too much to ask of many.
So in that environment, I stay on my "island" avoiding them all.
I do have some 3M P100 masks that I got early last year before they all disappeared.
But as I take care of my mother, this is the new lifestyle until it clears, and I do think it will eventually.
I do also spray down packages with bleach, and let them sit , but that is just me.

Good Luck to you in Canada !!
And to everyone !

Best Regards,
Ray

Installed a bunch of parts I recently received from Ron :) Rear seat sits a bit askew, for once I don't think its MDJuan's fault but probably a 1/16" off somewhere on my tub, but its still functionnal and I've somewhat reduced it by bending the seat's arm a bit.

Top bows have been butchered quite a bit. Don't think its worth the effort of fixing em.

Hello,

Wow, it is really looking like a whole jeep again !!
You have been doing excellent restoration work, and it should be getting ready to paint soon 😁😁

If you have your top bow components, try to repair !!
Have you seen the shipping costs for a new set ??
Also if you do buy a new set from the US, get a USA made set of top bows. They are absolutely well made and stronger tube steel.

I have a couple sets and they can't be beat. They can be ordered with F marks as well as unmarked for the MB.

I also have a European made top bow, F marked, but the US ones are better in my opinion as the tubes are just a little stronger and bent a little better. Also the Euro one, it is good, but the 2 footman loops are not installed, and only pilot holes are drilled for them. You have to drill and get the screws and loops.
The US sets have them already installed for the 2 straps to attach.

I do not know about md juan, as I do not have a set, the may be good, but I would only use the beautiful US made ones.

Keep us posted !!!

Best Regards,
Ray
