Hello Philip,

This company actually makes a very nice copy of the spare wheel holder:

Hello Goran,

That looks quite nice, my only objection is that it has to come from the UK, and shipping would cost more than the item... Do you actually know how the tire is held down? The upper plate does not seem long enough to go across the hub opening... Never seen these in use.

Here's another little fitting you will need on a SAS or LRDG Jeep, The Bagnold Sun Compass. Finally got this one at the end of last year.

is it allowed to post mine too?

it´s a 1942 Willys MB, so far original, with the help of a lot of books made like an LRDG Jeep

last edition was a wireless set 11, not complete but I hope to get the missing parts somehow, and a repro of the Sun Compass - European Made!

I've often wondered how much overweight those jeeps were, with all that extra fuel and water and ammo and such. Not to mention two men (or more) on top of all the supplies. Such great little vehicles!
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
Alone cannot you it resist!

Hi Guys,

Great project!

The SAS often placed road tyres on the rear wheels not BAR grips. The LRDG however placed road tyres on front.

Regards

Steve

I know I'm late to the game. Researching the SAS jeep specs I went to a British modeling sight and came across some guys that know the sas jeep. Here are some things they told me about it. The grill was cut so that when the Nazis would do straffing runs on them and might hit the radiator they could get their hands in there and fix the radiator fast. I cut my grill and the amount of metal removed isn't enough to justify doing it for more fuel weight. You say more air , well they pointed out they sometimes put tires in front of the grill, so I have to rule that out. On the rear. They did not use tire carriers. They let the tire sit in the bumperet and just put a bolt strait through the rear wall and they removed the rear conner handles so the tires would lay flat against the rear panel. O guys no reflectors. They will give off glint.
