I don't know how old you are, but wait until you need bifocals. Your welding skills will revert back to beginner status.1942 Ford GPW 352nd wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:31 am

Re: 42 GPW Script 26708 Restoration
Funny that you mention that Jeff as I need to wear glasses and it is a challenge getting them to stay just right while wearing them under a welding hood. Sadly, I couldn't avoid it and had to upgrade my glasses to "progressive lenses" (aka - bifocals) a few years ago. Although the body is quick to age, I will always be a kid at heart!JAB wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 10:02 amI don't know how old you are, but wait until you need bifocals. Re: 42 GPW Script 26708 Restoration
Amazing as it's hard to believe this journey that has taken 3+ years, is almost finished! Well, I don't think I will ever be finished, but you know what I mean. With the body primed and painted, I decided to install the tow bows and small components to the tub. I had purchased a few Stimsonite No. 12 reflectors some time ago and it felt good to finally assemble and install them to the tub. Noticed from previous threads, that it is unlikely that the alignment of the reflector was vertical on the rear panel, but I'm going with that was how they were installed on the jeep when I had purchased it.
Started the electrical wiring installation and next step is to install the tub to the frame!

With the help of a few friends and family, we all shared the memorable event by lifting and installing the tub to the frame. Truly a special & memorable moment as I remember asking my neighbor to assist with watching me remove the tub from the frame.
With all of the sanding, priming, and painting finished, I expect things will go pretty fast now with the assembly. Thinking the only obstacle that will slow things down will be the trip to the DMV....

This is the exciting part! Then somewhat of a somber feeling comes when some things aren't quite right, like a carb adjustment, clutch or transmission issues, a tail light that doesn't light, gas gauge, etc. but then after most of the bugs are worked out, it gets really satisfying and enjoyable! Congratulations on your progress!

Congratulations getting to this point, she looks beautiful, you really put it in gear and got it done, and have one of the cleanest and best decorated shops around !
I hope to be right behind you in about a month or so !
Your restoration work has been an inspiration, and I am sure your Dad would be proud of what you have accomplished, and is with you in Spirit while getting it done, and will be riding along with you always !
Now you can soon enjoy using it and going on great adventures with it !
Do you have a name for the jeep yet ?
I like the cleaned up Moore plate on the dash !

Re: 42 GPW Script 26708 Restoration
Thanks Jeff. You're right on with your comment "Then somewhat of a somber feeling comes when some things aren't quite right..." as after I installed the tub, I noticed the round exhaust pipe came in contact with the tub floor and that was before the bolts had secured the tub to the frame!JAB wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:33 amThis is the exciting part! Might be worth starting a new thread as many people have asked me, "So what has been the biggest or one of your most troubling issues with your jeep restoration thus far?" and the installation of the exhaust pipe/bracket/muffler is the first that comes to mind. It has reared its ugly head once again!

Thanks for your comments and encouragement Ray! I had hoped to purchase more of the Airborne Beer in hopes that when I finish the jeep, I can enjoy a few glasses. Unfortunately, they no longer distribute to the US anymore.70th Division wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:51 amHello Todd,1942 Ford GPW 352nd wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:26 amWith the help of a few friends and family, we all shared the memorable event by lifting and installing the tub to the frame. I have a photo of my dad in my shop and I like to think that he is helping me at each step of the way! I don't have a name for my jeep but I do have plans on painting the jeep and making it as a tribute to a WWII veteran. I just need to finalize the design and markings in my mind.
Great observation on the Moore Tag!

Hi Todd,
Great looking GPW in an even greater looking workshop!!
I wish I had a place like that to house my GPW.
Just a few more tweaks to do and you will be driving around smiling.
