Looks like I have a matching numbers VEP GPW. Scratched off the paint on the frame and it revealed the same numbers as the vehicle's original data plate. When I brought it home I never would have guessed the "Willys frame" was an original from the Ford factory!! YEA!

It's extremely likely that it would be. My June 18, 1942 GPW-37718 is a script GPW.

Great! Can it be saved? How much originality still remains. I saw a CJ2A yesterday in a field that was literally the "remains" of the jeep.

Hi a few years ago I purchased some jeep parts from Montana and shipped them over to the UK,they included amongst other parts 2 GPW frames and a ford script tub the serial numbers on the frames are 20425 and 204227. The hood and tub number is 2010082 I am wondering if the tub matches to either of the frames ? When rubbing down the tub I found the words HOOSIER PETE painted down both sides and the cartoon painting of a horses head on the right hand side lower panel, after some research it looks like the horse is the one in the Disney film The draft horse which was made in 1941 I would appreciate any info on these GPWs

Hi all. I thought I’d contribute to the long thread to say I’ve just bought my Ford GPW with 4 digit serial number 8727, as stamped on chassis with original glove box plates and DoD 03-19-42. Fairly complete and original, albeit rusty condition. Tons of f marked parts, flat top grill. It’s got an early (must be one of the first?) Ford chassis rather than the MB type one. I am looking forward to starting the restoration. It is now back in on Europe... in the UK.
I was told that WW2 Jeeps were not taken back to the US after the war. Is this true? I cannot understand why there are so many WW2 Willys and GPWs are still being exported from the US if they were never sent back after the war is this US true. Cheers in advance for any info provided.

Re: VEP Ford GPW owners, sn, DoD and reg no. Please add yours.
After the war, the US auto industry had to stop war production and get back in to automobile production in a hurry. Returning veterans needed jobs. Auto industry needed people to make the cars and buy the new cars to support the auto industry. US veterans loved jeeps and would gladly buy a jeep, which would cut in to the US auto production. So, if there are only new autos to buy, not surplus jeeps, the auto industry transitions from war production to new automobile production. It worked.
I guess now EU collectors are trying to buy WW 2 jeeps but maybe the supply is thin.

Gents,
I’m new to G503 and thoroughly enjoying the wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm.
Adding my GPW to the list. Located in the UK where it is enjoying a well earned retirement..!
Serial No 29837
DOD [US] 6/9/42
I’d love to know or even estimate which factory produced the jeep, is that possible?
Regards,
Mark
