Hope I was not perceived as being negative. I would lose my mind if I did not have a restoration project going of some kind. Love preserving history. Just have a joking side. P.S. Your GPW is only 197 before mine.

I only wish I could positively confirm the date of delivery! Do you have your actual hood number? Is your DOD actual or estimated? Mine is only estimated by Tom W., way back; but he did say it was from Dallas, and it had some bumperette markings with III on one bumperette.
Thanks.
John

Hi Frank I had a GPW 8628 Delivered today Frame and Tub Match
DOD is 3-24-42 so March 1942
Hood estimater is 2063405 I have yet to look at the hood and body for numbers painted not stamped that is
this is a a mix of Ford and willys as has willys frame with GPW serial and tub is GPW Ford scripted.
the frame serial was in an unusual place as was stamped into the Engine mount on the drivers side.
and covered with red grease. so very well preserved
.
best regards
Guy

Hello Guy,
What you have is a somewhat rare early GPW which was built by Ford on a frame from Midland, a company that supplied the same frames to both Willys and Ford at the beginning of production. Shortly afterwards, Ford made their own Ford frames. It is a Ford, not a Ford/Willys mix. Congratulations. I have one as well.

Hi Can you help further with 8628 there are no hood numbers anywhere, side back hood I have look and looked but looks like the vehicle e was sanded back to bare metal every ware.
The stamping of the serial number on the frame is an exact match for a GPW 6*** for sale on milweb its in Italy the serial is on the engine mount on the left and at an angle text is identical (font) just different numbers to what I have including the funny angle. is there any way of establishing where the vehicle I have was built and where it was shipped to what service etc It has bullet holes most likely post war, apart from the 20+mm through & through in the rear cross member no mistaking it pics on Facebook G503

Zaverboy. The GPW #8628 with the number stamped on the left motor mount was most likely assembled at the Louisville Ky. Plant.
This is according to Tom. In older posts and based on his study's.(The quote below is in reference to a GPW number stamped on the left motor mount.)

Hi Dino,
I have not seen any "hard" data saying for sure but my GPW studies tells me it was only the Louisville,Ky. plant.

Thank you Roger. Is theranyway of pinning the hood number down like any one close to 8628 serial has I'd their hood number. Not estimated. Would there be a different hood no for a Leuisvile built
GPW opposed to a Dearborn built vehicle or were they issued globally as once issued there can not be duplicates, Also trying to trace where it went to and what service e its had. I can see at 1 point it was completly sanded back proffesionally to red primer then re primed and painted a gloss pale blue looks like a proffesional car sales or corporate job not bubba the tool box lid has the blue well preserved.

I have a GPW 16033 DoD 4-16-42. My dad bought it in 1947 and it has been in the family since then. We have been restoring it over the past few years and are in the final stage of getting it ready to drive again. It hasn't been driven for about 30 years.
