Re: genuine Ford tire
Finally spoke with coker and they said the last time they did something like this it was an order for 100 tires. I have a call in to RFJP to see if that is something he wants to entertain. Otherwise we would need 20+ GPW owners to commit to a set of 5 to make this work.
Shipping is always a problem. I live 2 hours from Coker, but they still need to get to the end user. If all the regular suppliers took 25-50 tires each the price might be reasonable.
More to follow.

Re: genuine Ford tire
I did speak with Ron just now. He will look into this and get back with me. I have nothing else to offer regarding information and will not speak for him. I'll post what he reports, and perhaps he or Bill will post on this thread, or somewhere else if he decides to enter into some agreement with Coker. Again, I'm just fascilitating a discussion among the "players" and will then extract myself from the process and sit in the wings and wait, like you all, if anything positive develops.
IF nothing comes of this, Coker said they had previously dusted off Ford tire molds (different size/configuration) for a vintage Ford club who ordered 100 tires. I am not saying they would do so again, but perhaps as part of the 2023 Annual MVPA convention there could be a sizeable order placed well in advance with a delivery from Chatanooga to wherever the convetion is. This would of course require some sort of pre-payment or financial obligation before they would do something like this. Just thinking out loud here.
For now I'll go radio silent unitl I hear from Ron either way.

Re: genuine Ford tire
Hello Oz,
Excellent work !!
Lets hope we can get something good going for the hobby !!
I would order 2 sets as well, for Ford Script jeep projects.
I also really like their Firestone tires, and have 3 sets of them now for WW2 jeeps, and recently bought a set of their NDCC Firestones for my M38A1.
As I get to my next jeep, I plan to order more Firestones.
They are real works of art, and much appreciated !!!
I got the NDCC Cokers from Jegs, with free shipping, plus a $50 discount on the order !
I have a Goodyear order pending with them now as well.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: genuine Ford tire
Oz, the only input I have is tires are a bulky item that takes up a great deal of space. For the space they take up the profit off them is minimal compared to other less bulky items. Of course I can't speak for Ron but I do know he's been approached to handle tires a number of times in the past and after crunching numbers decided against it.

Re: genuine Ford tire
Thanks Bill,
I will speak with Coker and see if they have a minimum number of tires for a production run on these, then I'll go from there, perhaps with a joint MVPA effort or something else. I would be open to taking 100 tires to the 2023 MVPA show but under no circumstances would I get into the tire shipping business individually or in sets of 5. I certainly understand the issue with storage of tires and the small profit margin.
In the end it might just be an exercise of convincing COker to add them to their regular Firestone and GY line. I think if we showed them how many documented owners there are the might see thie benefit of doing a run.

Re: genuine Ford tire
Hello Oz,
The best way if they will make them, is to have their current large vendors like Summit and Jegs handle them.
Jegs has the best deal on current Coker Firestones, as well as Goodyears.
They offer free shipping as well, and usually summit does offer free or reduced cost shipping.
My last 3 tire orders was via Jegs , with FREE shipping, and earlier tires from Summit, where with free shipping as well.
Summit once had MD Juan combat rims, with free shipping.
I got 1 set, but they stopped carrying them.
They both carry Cokers full line of awesome tires.
They are a great source and vendor !!
Keep up your good efforts !!!!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: genuine Ford tire
Ray, this is the first time I have heard of the "Ford" brand tires going to Cuba. The story I heard years ago was "Ford" brand tires were built in Ford's own tire plant in the late 30's and early 40's for their passenger cars. When they converted to jeep production they just added the NDT tread to their existing tire carcasses. In late 1942, FDR gave Ford's tire plant to the Russians. There is a photo of the employees of the tire plant, dated Dec.1, 1942 with the last tire off their line hanging from a hook (a 600X16 NDT)and the employees gathered around. The molds were crated up and shipped to Russia and some G.I.s returning from Russia after the war reported seeing the crated molds rusting away on a wharf over there. There is no record of the Russians ever producing a tire. There are photos accompanying this story and I'll try to dig them out.

It was the Firestone molds that went to Cuba.
Not the Ford ones.
The only reason I discovered this was my friend in France bought some Cuban made NDT 6.00x16 tires in the early 1980's in France, and they clearly showed all the Firestone markings defaced, and made in Cuba added .
I will get a picture and post it here.
Best Regards,
Ray
