VEP vrs. later production axel differences

Hello all,

Not wanting to divert or detract from another thread so I am starting a new thread.

What is the difference between VEP and later production axel housings?

My search terms may be incorrect, but my search on the topic does not reveal anything substantial. This might be something that has been overlooked when comparing the VEP to later GPW production differences.

Well one difference is the use of willys differentials, but with f marked leaf pads welded on them, also the brake line junction block bolted to the axle tube like a slat grill

Early vep have scallop axles later are round

Are not the outer rib of the carrier, where it meets the tube, roundish and not flattened?

I would say: go to Jeepdraw for information, but there is NO information on axles to be found there except that they are painted OD...
Time for an update on this, or perhaps in the new GPW guide which should be coming soon...

Scalloped axle shafts were used some time beyond VEP. My GPW17331 has them.

I sorry guys/gals I knew about the scalloped axels (looking for both sides myself), I should have been more specific.

I was asking about the axel housing itself.

Do you know what the cutoff dates are for the break line junction box relocation or when they sopped using MB axels?

Interesting about the leaf pads. I rebuilt a 43 MB that had a willys rear axel with F marked leaf pads. The front axel was all MB. I figured Willys simply used Ford pads when they were out of stock on the standard pads. Similar to how the M1 Carbine manufactures used other manufacture's parts when needed.
