Found this interesting Thermostat Housing in GPW 4120 as I was pulling the engine.
Engine is a CJ2A block and head. Found a nice F marked short breather tube on the side and a GPW marked Thermostat Housing on the head.
Not sure if the casting on took the two middle numbers. Also thoughts on the JD marking?
Transmission is an early ford although looks like the bell housing has been replaced.
Also just noticed that the GPWs seem to have the holes pre-drilled for the slat grill air dams. Was this always the case or did they stop that at some point.

Re: Thermostat Housing
This was a part made by a sub-contractor for Ford. It is common to see this type on some very late production GPW’s and also were available as late war spares.
Yes, the dimples across the hood left by the tooling dies should be present on GPWs...although the SG type air deflectors were never installed at the factory.
