vep ford block id

Post by parker007 » Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:06 am

On ebay there is a ford block with gpw 4987 and it is a gpw6015 cast number. I thought early blocks were wilson? Im wondering it is a restamp? Did ford cast blocks that early?

yes ford was casting blocks this early, they were still mixing wilson blocks in with ford cast ones, some links in recent previous posts, However the oval pad with raised end is from a later era, font not quite correct, so I will say restamp.

On another note, i hope this is the before look as this engine looks like it came from deep in the pacific. Hope I dont know this guy.

IMO that looks like original Ford font. My guess is that it is not restamped even though it has a stepped Pad. And yea that is pricey.

stepped block came out late 42 ish, that ser number is very early 42.

compare the W to known early pics, little leggy things on the W dont belong there.,W is actually a smaller font.,
G is not fully formed and its horizontal line is not correct
4 is also incorrect font.

Well so much for the rule that the stepped block came out in late 42.

As i said before. "My guess is that it is not restamped even though it has a stepped Pad."

Just my opinion though.

Even Tom W could not date that one, fonts are wrong on this one, cant see the serial number on the other. Guess its let the buyer decide.
