You need to get rid of that ford genny and put an autlite on there! Leave it here as yard art or something.

What was the time period that the GPWs used ford built generators? I thought it was early on.

From Jeep Draw
"From Ford documents, the Ford made generator with sealed bearings was started on June 16, '42. Prior to this date Autolite generators ( GEG-5001A and maybe GEG-5002D ) were used. NOTE - there is "
Wonder if there is anything in the Llyod white books?

Sealed bearing would mean no oilier, correct? This one has oiliers for both front and rear bearings.

Are all parts on the generator ford? ball bearings were eliminated on commutator end near 43, and oil fills were used till 44, if we believe jeep draw. I would probably use the ford generator, however I think it is wrong per printed info. I need to look at mine, any dates on that ford tag, they are never readable.
Where did you find info on the progression of the ford heads. I cant find it. I have a may of 42 willys head on mine and that needs to go.

I found the info on the ford heads in past posts and it sounded as though it speculative. The thought was 1, then 2, then 2c, ect.
The tag looks like the date could still be there, but I am weary of trying to mess with it to try and read it. I'll get some pics.

On my Ford genny 5W, gpw on front cover, GPW on pulley, gce118 on back cover, think thats an autolite part. 3 screw round back cover with open bearing, 1 oilite on back cover.
on my autolite 4W rear cover gce1118 front and rear oiler. round cover on back with bearing.
I think I will use the autolite, and part with the ford one when things start to get back to the norm. I do have the dod but its earlyier than both of these gennys.
Now maybe try to learn something about gpw starters.
