Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
As far as I’m aware the fat shaft is a Willys MB thing, my March 42 VEP GPW has the normal thin shaft as most I’ve seen have. Shame your in Kent as I’m 200 miles north of you.

Fat propeller shafts were not factory installed during GPW production.

Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
It sounds like in the rare occasion a Ford fat prop shaft may have been fitted, they will be extremely hard to find so I’d go with what 99.9 % of production and go with the normal shaft.
Can some one post a photo of one? After all, prop shaft can be rebuilt and parts can be mixed about. Even the welded on UV joints brackets on the end can be replaced.

Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
Can you post photos of that shaft? I’m inclined to think it was a “grafted” type repair on that fat prop shaft? I could be wrong...but curious.yorkshireman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 12:48 amFat prop shafts where used on GPWs..i had one and it had the GP part number cast into it at the rear where the UJ goes..it was on a 3 digit serial number jeep....

Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
Chris, that's unfortunate. To date, there isn't any evidence, photographic or otherwise, that Ford ever produced a "fat" rear prop shaft intended for use on early production GPWs. If it was indeed what you say then, contrary to what we currently know, it would be the only known surviving example. I was really hoping you could post a photo as it would help "re-write" GPW canon.
Please, if anyone has a fat prop shaft marked on the yoke end with a GP part number...please post photos!

Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
No photos proving the existence of a fat GP or GPW marked propeller shaft exist to date.
There is also no reference to one in any of the GP manuals.

Re: "Fat "Rear Prop shaft
Isn't the fatty 4" in diameter? They are pretty obvious when you see one but my understanding is that were exclusively Willys.
