Hello! from the UK and first time jeep owner! :)

Post by Shortround » Tue May 21, 2019 7:18 am

Hi everyone!

Thought id give a little hello post!

My name is Sam and I'm from the UK, i'm 26 and been into living history for about 5 years. A few months ago I brought a jeep! I had no idea what i was doing apart from the odd bit of research. The idea i had was to restore a jeep to use with my history group, British royal navy commandos.

I found out from facebook group (thanks Jonathan and Parke if you see this!) that i have a USMC Ambulance jeep.. well poop!
I'm now going to be restoring it back to its former glory and i will get another jeep for living history! I guess that's how it all starts... right? :?

Some little details
Chassis and body serial: 118895
Body type: USMC Ambulance
DoD 05/15/1943
Engine M38 block & CJ2 head :(
Transmission/Gearbox: GPW.. yay!

Anyway i hope to get to know you all! as you will know me... oh boy is there going to be lost of questions! :D :D

Pics to follow.

Hello Sam
As others have said. Welcome to 503. :) your in the right place to get your jeep questions answered :) Where do you live in UK ? You may like the idea of joining a group of enthusiasts. The MVG have various branches scattered across the country, If that's not for you, then certainly a lot of shows take place where 'jeep guys' get together.
regards Nick

Welcome and congratulations Sam. Sorry the jeep does not suit your re-enactment purposes, but the USMC Ambulance jeep conversions are few and far between. Nice to see another one pop up. Mine is a GPW as well.

Hi Sam,

where abouts in the UK are you - might be useful if you need help or parts and someone can steer you in the right direction.
Not uncommon for newbies to throw away bits that are hard to find or wreck bits getting them off.
Also some clues to its history turn up to a well trained eye that would otherwise be lost.

I know I did!

Some extremely knowledgeable folks on here (which I'm not one) so ask questions.

Good luck.
