New acquisition

Just acquired a restored VEP (apparently) Ford GPW. It is (was) a Navy rig. Year 1942, serial 16377, DOD 4/16/42. This is full circle for me, sort of. Back over 50 years ago (mid '60's), my first vehicle was a GPW that my dad and I restored together. I drove it to high school my senior year. And of course got into some trouble going places I shouldn't have! Sold it when I went into the Navy in Vietnam. Fast forward to today, and now I have another 1942 GPW, but apparently a VEP. The first one was not, as it didn't have the script markings this one does. This one was restored a few years ago by the family/shop in Toledo, OR. I've restored an M-35, an M-43, currently working on an M422A1, and now have the GPW. At least this one I don't have to restore! And, I've finally achieved my goal to have a NAVY vehicle.

Congratulations on your purchase, we would love to see some photos of it. This is the site to brag about it, and gain some admirers. :D

Many vendors sell OD lusterless green paint if you want to join the winning team again. Hmmmm interesting question... if the Navy acquired an Army jeep and oversprayed the visual surfaces Battleship Grey, it would be grey on the outside and OD green under the hood and inside tool boxes, under the tub etc. If the Army ever acquired a Navy jeep would it be OD green over grey over green over red oxide on the outside, but only green over red on the inside?

Hmmmm...
