For what it's worth, I heard JMP will start reproducing the early straight fillerpipe with push/pull dipstick soon.

I dont think the straight dipstick has been proven to go on any of the delivered gpw's. You need the Funnel type with push on dipstick, one on the auction site in WA. for 225

Hi Michael and Adam,
I don’t quite understand? Am I looking for something I don’t need to be?

You don't need the VEP straight dipstick, but the 2nd model (funnel-type with push-pull dipstick).

Re: VEP filler/diptick tube and dipstick
GPW 964. Eng. # GPW1369. It has a straight oil filler tube with a straight push on cap. Small hole on the top rear of the tube. Down draft tube. No PCV valve or vent tube between the filler tube and cross tube between the flat pancake air cleaner and carb. Wilson foundry block on an MB chassis. No picture in a book. What was on the jeep when I received it after very obviously sitting behind a farmers barn in Alabama, broken down, for many, many years. The farmer got it when he was released from service after WWII. His grandson said so. The tube did not look like it had ever been disturbed in all that time. Tube and block was in the exact same condition. Really bad.
Got me wondering why it keeps coming up that this never was ???
Maybe not for long but it did happen. I have one.

Re: VEP filler/diptick tube and dipstick
Obviously somebody replaced the engine, so it was messed with some time. You are going to have a hard sell there, Just curious, since the ser numbers are close, how about a pic of the later ser number and casting number to see what font was used on it.
But I like your thinking, so heres a jeep engine with a straight dipstick and tube, looks like it was never messed with, so maybe they used them in 46 too. PO said this was an all original engine.

Re: VEP filler/diptick tube and dipstick
Is the engine in the pic one you can look at ??
Is there a serial number on the top right corner of the block, just below the head gasket, on an oval pad behind the oil filter ???
What is the casting number on the block, just above the oil pan, below the generator ???

Its here, its a 45 or a 46 or a 47 or a 48, Its a CJ2A with a post war engine and a early WWll dipstick and WWll air filter. I just keep her around to show that just because something looks like its been there forever, dosent mean it was there originally

Re: VEP filler/diptick tube and dipstick
Early CJ2A's had the Oakes air cleaner pictured with the embossed instructions. Then the number of louvers changed on the back, and then finally they went to the the Donaldson cleaner. Lots of Oakes variants though, and Willy's used WWII contract parts on some early CJ2A's (people have even found GPW parts and most famously maybe, the 'waffle' mark on the hood hinge to cancel out a script 'F'. So it may yet be the original oil bath cleaner it left the factory with. Nice looking project!
