Tinning on the fenders?
I have gpw 1399. The originals fenders were just sandblasted. I noticed that the area where the braided ground strap from (A-1665 harness assy.) goes had the usual tinned area but the two mounting holes for the harness also had tinning. I have not seen this before. Also, on both fenders there were signs of tinning on the lower mounting hole that bolts the fender to the body. Its the bottom hole of the three that mount the fender to the body. To me this would have to be factory installation. Anybody have any thoughts on this.

Re: Tinning on the fenders?
Hi Scott,
In regard to the fender to cowl tinned mounting hole, The Ford GPW branch plant assembly data for an early '44 ACM type 2 body shows that the left and right hand fenders' top and bottom mounting holes were both tinned by ACM. The wiring clip mounting holes were not tinned at this time.
Interesting difference between early/later/Ford/ACM.

Hi Tom,
Do you have a list of where all the tinned spots should be on a Feb 42 GPW should be? I've been trying to put together a list.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Tinning on the fenders?
dumb question, does blasting remove the tinning? If it does not, the blasted front clip I have for 12078 could be searched while you are in the neighborhood. However they are NOT from 12078, but another pre-grille indent GPW.
