After Action Report:

March 17, 2013

The day dawned bright and clear in lovely Geyserville, and the rumble of military motors was heard throughout the land.
A small band of MVers motored north from Larkfield, and a couple from Penngrove area and a couple more from Vallejo. Soon thereafter a jet motor whine was heard whistling through the woods south of Willits followed by a rhythmic chop as a Hughes OH-6 burst out over the treetops. All wheeled vehicles converged at the Privat's Bluesprings Ranch at around 1030 hrs, and the attending operators and passengers commenced to meet, greet and explore the assorted paraphernalia lying about. At around 1120 hrs the OH-6, ably piloted by Jon McKee was heard in the distance and he made a high pass, searching for the blue tarp LZ laid out in the valley. He spotted it at the last moment, wheeled around and swooped in for a perfect square-on landing, much to the delight of the spectators. After a few more minutes, all loaded up for a back country trail ride with some junk, tractor, truck, trailer, and parts sight seeing along the way. The grass was green, the trees were budding and leafing out, the wildflowers were in brilliant attendance, and the roads were just perfectly moist for climbing. We made our way around and over the hills, through deep canyons, and down steep slopes, and eventually up to the top of the Ranch to the camp ground, lookout area, for a picnic lunch. Rory presided over a brief club meeting and then we all loaded up and proceeded down the mountain, through some more backwoods adventures, and then to the barnyard for a bunch of good chatting, restoration photos, and parts selling. Jon did his pre-trip inspection, fired up the Hellicopter, lifted off neatly, and whisked away over the mountains with the sound fading away on the afternoon wind. One by one the revelers said their goodbyes, and the Ranch Tour was over for yet another year. Thanks to all who attended and filled the day with joy and pleasantness!
