Hi Group,

Here is a G503 Database of Bantam serial numbers and other data for all to see and use.
Please post ( or email to me ) any numbers/data you have and I will add them to the list as I have time. Due to limited space I will not be able to acknowledge where the data comes from.

Tom,

Thanks for posting this. Here are a few small additions and corrections.

My BRC should show USA number 2016300, not 2016330.

Steve Greenberg's BRC, listed as SN 1081, is an incorrect serial number. The data plate was missing on his BRC and the body is an original hat channel floor, so the number is certainly 1500 or higher.

There seems to be some question about the BRC in Canada, SN 1389 or 1390. That vehicle was restored by Bob Harris in Reno, NV in the 1970s. When I photographed it then, it displayed USA number 2016232, SN 1390, and DOD 3-41. Bob told me the hood number and SN were correct to the vehicle. They run 5 digits off the regular progression from the contract's first USA number and first serial number. Using his numbers (USA reg. only 68 numbers lower than mine), my serial number should be 1458, two vehicles later than the one in Ohio. While number 1390 should be in the range for a corrugated floor, it was restored with a hat channel floor. When I first saw the restored jeep, Bob had at least two other unrestored BRCs in the back yard, so either a better body was swapped for the original or the floor was replaced with the later version during the restoration. I'm sure he told me but can't remember anymore.

I also found a photo of the BRC-40 in the Harrah's Auto Collection, now owned by Bob B. in PA. It has SN 1911, DOD 4-41, with no visible USA number.

"Bob B" in "Pennsylvania" is one heck of a guy, it is our loss he does not subscribe to G503...... he is well known and respected in Bantam civilian circles......might be worth looking through the Bill Spear list to add postings by serial number, but I do not see a lot of additions to be made with a quick glance through his list......THIS BANTAM LIST BY TOM IS A REAL SERVICE THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE HAS BEEN ATTEMPTED ON 503 BEFORE............thanks Tom.......we have come a long way since the early 80s when it was reported only "ten or twelve" BRCs exist today........

Hello Todd,

You can cross Ray Hockers off the list, his was traded with Ken Hake. It didn't have an engine or transmission.

Bantam BRC 40

Post by Steve Greenberg » Wed Oct 25, 2006 7:05 pm

Tom,
My Bantam USA # is 2016884. The S/N 1081 was stamped on the block. As MR. Know-it-all R. Larson  pointed out my serial number is not correct for my jeep. At least my Bantam runs! Tom keep up the good work.

Hi Steve,

Is that better ? Or maybe I should check with Rick instead ?

How is the motor block serial numbered and where? I want to check on # 1456 and see what the motor number is.

Tom,
As far as I know the serial number was only stamped on the engine data plate. My engine was stamped under the data plate on the block. (I was missing the original plate). I do not know who stamped it there.
You can ask Rick...he seems to know everything! :?

You left coasters!!!!!! Just spent a week out there for the Austin Bantam Society annual meet........ incredible!....Santa Maria, California... Not one cloud in the sky, temps never higher than 80, never lower than 60........perfect........ met a lot of new ABS folks, and YES, they did have their new grade one BRC, owned by Jim Johnston, and because the judge (CBL) felt strange grading it against civilian cars, it did not win a trophy............BUT..... now California folks now have a BRC to display, and it WAS the showstealer............

Hi Bruce,

In the G503 serial number list you have your BRC # 1237 with a DOD of April 7th, 41. How did you get this date? I thought BRC 40s only had a Month and year in the date.

Also do you have any numbers or data to add from the California Bantam you posted about?

Tom, Question one. I assure you my date is right, but the last time I revealed this source I started WW3, as I am sure Todd would testify to....(not with anyone on this site)...........question two. it was Ken Hakes very last BRC restoration, delivered to Jim Johnston of Ventura, California about a month ago........ did not get the serial number, might get it for you when I talk to Jim again......BTW, he is past President of Austin Bantam Society...... I was excited to see this past Sunday he is also restoring a Bantam civilian trailer..........great unit.........Jim's is the first middle/southern California BRC in MANY years................

Hi Bruce and Todd,

I wonder where Ken got the hood number 2017375 from. My records shows this was never a Bantam number or ever an anything number. It falls into some of the voids that show up in the WW2 hood numbers that were used.

There is one in Flagstaff. Don't have any details on numbers however, I did see it and it was freestanding :D . I think he needed a windshield as I recall.

Can't publish the guys name without his approval.

Update: 11/05/06. I now hear that the Flagstaff Bantam went to Belgium. So disregard my optimistic hope that I had found another.
