Is this a GP driveshaft?
My MB driveshaft is about 5" longer at 21-ish inches (center to center of the u-joint cups) with no body on the frame. Are the GP's that much shorter, or the drivetrain located that much further back? As you can see, this drive shaft, at what I perceive as the normal stationary position in the splined slip-joint, is about 16-ish inches long. The OD flange on the side is identical to the greasy one that's still attached to the drive shaft but the lighting didn't allow it to show in the picture.

Is it a front drive shaft?

If it is, somebody attached it to a rear output flange.

FYI,
A rear CJ-2A shaft, collapsed on the slip yoke, is about 17" center to center of the u-joints.
Do the welds appear "factory"? Maybe some one built a special application? Any better picture available?

Re: Is this a GP driveshaft?
Brad, your timing is off! I just logged in to report that I figured it out just now. It's from our good friend Bubba. I pulled it apart to see if there was an "F" on the splined end like a GPW would have. I cleaned it all and noticed that the alignment arrows did not match but the yokes were very close to being in phase. It's a GP/GPW companion flange alright but the rest is CJ stuff that bubba shortened, most likely to relocate the transfer case further back to fit a larger engine. I'll save the flange for my GPW and put the rest on the parts pile in case I need a slip-joint for something. Thanx!

Re: Is this a GP driveshaft?
Hey Jeff, something else to know. In your first picture the flange with F script and GP part number is from a GPW not a GP. I have taken quite a few GPs apart for parts on my projects and never came across a GP part that had an F script on it from the factory. To best of my experience Ford did not do the F script thing on GPs. Not to say someone could have used GPW parts that are also commuting GP in their restoration. Such things like axle flanges and brake drums come to mind. Best wishes.

Re: Is this a GP driveshaft?
Thanks Leo. I thought the conventional Ford parts numbering system was such that at any GP part that was carried into GPW production kept the GP part number (if it didn't change in any way). Since this part has a GP part number I just made that assumption.
I also found an NOS brake hose in my "stash". The long hose with the cellophane wrap has the GP number while the short one above has the GPW number.
I'm wasting so much time digging through boxes looking for specific parts for my MB project that I'm forced to take time off to organize all my stuff in an effort to be more efficient down the "trail" when I finally get to my wagon, pickup, and GPWs. In doing so I rediscovered my boxes of NOS stuff that's now too valuable (unopened repacks) to use now that there's so much high quality repro stuff on the market. In doing so I found some GP stuff that John Geesink made for Andy in the batch of parts I bought from his estate. After I get everything organized I'll post anything surplus to my needs here so it can find a good home.
Not sure about Harley, it seems my "family obligations" get in the way of "Jeff's desires"!
