Just a note on the photo of the "first" GP that Robin posted......

This is a posed photo for the press.....

It was taken at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 28th at the "official" ceremony of the start of deliveries of the 1/4 C&R car. Edsel Ford (driving) made a radio broadcast at 10:15 over radio station WXYZ describing the vehicle and Ford's military program.

This GP was built several days before and there are at least 4 built before it.

Note that is has a USA number on the hood and the tires are dirty. It was tested and passed by the Govt. inspector and the numbers applied a least a day before. USA numbers were only painted on the vehicle after it was accepted by the Govt. inspector.

Ford movie film (which I have copies of) show the GP being backed onto the line and then driven off several times for the still and movie cameramen of the press. After this Edsel made the radio broadcast (which I have transcripts of).

The really important thing in this photo is not the GP or Edsel Ford or General is the gentlemen standing to the left.......the Shipping Dept. manager, chassis designer, project manager, and the designer of the GP ( and the so called "Pygmy "...GP No. 1.)
