Barn find. Early 1941 Ford GP Series 1 *9298*

Post by tmca05 » Sat Apr 23, 2022 8:11 am

This was just pulled from a barn full of vintage car projects and piles of parts. Estate sale following death of owner.
I will need help on this project for sure. I have never owned a GP.
1941 Ford GP. Frame is marked *9298* which should put it in April 1941.
I can not totally read the data plate yet due to years of paint but it appears to be the same number as the frame.
The engine has been pulled and is in pieces (missing some parts). The engine number is GP*9307*. It is 9 numbers off from the Frame number.
My engine number (GP*9307*) actually matches the serial number of a GP listed in the G503 data base to an owner in Kansas. I wonder if he has a engine in his, and if his engine matches my GP.
Right now I plan to restore this GP. I've never done a GP so the learning curve is going to be steep and I am sure that I will need help.
Condition. Body pretty solid and not beat up. The rear panel has been cut out then replaced. Windshield is missing and replacement with one from a CJ2. No seats, no gas tank, no floor cover over the transmission. No steering wheel. Instrument cluster is nice, but wrong, it only goes to 60MPH. Head and top of motor is missing. Wrong carb. No air cleaner. It does have the original radiator, 3 original solid rims and one combat rim. Frame looks ok so far, bumpers are wrong.

Well I am not a Rocket Scientist, but I think I know why the engine does not match the body. I am also going to guess that in March of 1943, my GP was at Ft Knox, KY.
Under all the grease on the engine block, I just found this wonder rebuilt data tag.

I am attempting to contact that person and will keep you informed of any news related to your 9307 motor.
