m38 serial number

Post by Fmbruce » Tue Apr 15, 2014 1:22 pm

I have an ex-USAF M38 which served on a base here in UK and was released to the civilian market in 1962. (I also have a 1953 USAF M38A1 released in 1966). I saw on this forum recently a request from an owner who said that his M38 has a 6 figure serial number starting with a 2 and respondents said that this couldn't be right. Sadly I haven't been able to re-find that post. My jeep's documentation gives a serial number of 220107 and a date of delivery of 1951. It is definitely a US jeep, not Canadian. The dash plates show this number and date but the Willys plate behind the passenger seat is missing. This jeep is, I'm certain, absolutely original and genuine with history known right from the dealer who sold it when it was released - my A1 was sold by the same dealership. It seems an awful coincidence that 2 jeeps have this strange numbering. Can anybody help me out please? Thanks, Bruce Hoad, Sussex, UK.
