M38 modern wiring harness?

Post by JaceM38 » Sun Feb 09, 2014 11:54 am

Hi everyone I am new here, My Father and I have recently started rebuilding an 1952 M38 that belonged to my dad. It has been sitting outside for over 30 years. I want to replace all of the original wiring with a modern set up and am looking for any suggestions on how to do this or where I can purchase one.

The Jeep is still 24v and I would like to keep it that way. I am not trying to restore it to military spec. My goal is to turn it into a some what daily driver.

Any help would be appreciated

Did you try Vintage Wiring of Maine. Last time I checked, wiring harnesses were about $500.

Check e bay they come from time to time, m38a1 harness will also work on the m38, I have both and they look the same. Have seen them go for around 325.00 . Good luck on your restoration.

I made up my own and ran all mine with modern wire.
If you go that route, do yourself a favor and use a fine strand marine grade wire. It is more corrosion resistant since its conductors are tinned and it's also more flexible. Don't buy that crud off the shelf at your local auto chain store.

I rewired my A1 with an EZ wire harness and made the concession to change to WWII switch gear. A 12v harness will be great for a 24v system the same way a 6v system works well for a 12v conversion. With double the voltage the current requirement drops for the same work.

But if you don't want to change all the switches the easiest way to go is just buy a reproduction harness. The time savings is significant if you get a plug-n-play system.
