Saginaw Steering Conversion

Post by p38 » Thu Feb 02, 2012 4:41 pm

I have been redirected to this forum as a better source of information. I have a 1953 M38A1 which I would like to convert to Saginaw steering. Just looking for advice, suggestions, cautions, etc. from anyone who has been down this road. I understand Advance Adapters offers a kit which includes a saginaw steering unit. I am also switching to 11" drums/brakes.

I added the Saginaw Power Steering box. I used the Advance Adapter bracket. All works great, it is an involved job though. But, it's well worth it to me.

I also added 11" brake drums all the way around. Vast improvement over the stock brakes even with the stock manual Master cylinder. I later came back and added a hanging pedal setup and a power brake booster. Great got better.

Makes the old jeep much safer and easier to drive.
