I have a '47 Navy Jeep from the P.N.S.Y. that my father restored a while back. The hood was changed due to damage. I saved the original hood to gently sand it someday in search of original markings. After getting it out to begin sanding it finally, I see that it is set up for 4 latches. A peek under the fenders on the Jeep shows that my father filled in the mounting holes for the rear two latches.
After searching this board with no luck I began looking at Navy Jeep photos online. Very few show 4 latches. Was this a factory modification for the Navy or a Unit mod? I'm assuming for wind protection while aboard ships?

Re: Navy Jeep, 4 hood latches
Most likely a post war civilian addition,, tons of jeeps have 4 latches, keeps the back of hood from rattling and bouncing around.
I have a navy hood that had only 2 holes
have you seen any original period pictures with 4 latches? I have never seen any govt. paperwork saying to install them....

Re: Navy Jeep, 4 hood latches
There is a military notification to add 2 additional hood latches to prevent hood cracks. It was advised by motor pool mechanics.
If I can locate the notice I will post it.
