The Marines would also mark the jeep at the side grab handle. USMC above the handle and the jeep number under it. It looks like Old Faithful might have been
Seen the same thing on trucks, some were marked on the hood, some on the body.

Yves,

"Old Faithful" is a Marine NOM Contract jeep. You can tell by the tow hooks, lifting rings, and Dyneto wiper arm on the driver's side.

Frank is correct about the factory location of the markings on the side.

The Marines would put the numbers on the hood if they repainted them or if they were jeeps transferred from the Army.

Look at the other pictures in the thread and you can see the number below the side handle.

The YouTube video is CGI but nice nonetheless.
