Correct USMC WWII Paint.

Post by blitz67 » Mon Apr 30, 2018 4:51 pm

After trying the paint currently sold that is supposed to be the correct shade of USMC paint, I have come to the conclusion that it no where matches anything I have seen on Marine Corps Jeeps or Equipment. I have been doing a little internet research and the modelers seam to have the colors pretty close to what I have seen myself with original equipment. The color I see most resembles "Holly Day", I also have a jeep with paint very similar to "Wilderness Road". Has anyone experimented with any of these colors?

ICI Black Swan as I note in the link mixed with 34052 is what matched for my MZ-1.

A-3266 Enamel, Lusterless Forest Green, Synthetic paint is not as lusterless as OD... or 34052.

Mark and Farrell, I believe the MZ color is different from what was used in the field. I'll post what I'm talking about today. I have several pieces of equipment that has been field painted. Most common color I find is Holly Day, also lots of items with Wilderness Road. My question is what is the correct color for Army Jeeps acquired by the marines and repainted in Marine paint? I have a 44 GPW marine Jeep that has what is close to the Gillespie color but not close enough.

For what it is worth, my USMC ambulance jeep started out as an army jeep. This is one of the original brackets.

USMC 37141 Marine contract jeep looks exactly like the Mt. Olive color, of course it is 70+ years old.

You should try the Weapons Forum as I have no idea how they were painted.
