WTK about illuminated checklist

Post by Greencom » Mon Nov 09, 2020 7:32 pm

Hi,
I was given this 25+ years ago by a gentleman that was an aircraft mechanic during WWII and worked at the Paul E. Garber restoration facility in Suitland Md. He said it was from the panel of a P-51, I cannot find one

in any photo of a P-51 cockpit maybe I'm not looking well enough. It is a really clever item, It's basically a black painted clear piece of plastic with the checklist items etched through the paint. The light in the middle illuminates the letters and numbers through the plastic and they glow nicely in the dark, it's about 6" long an2" tall. Is anybody familiar with this?
Thanks.

I must have just spent an hour and a half looking with no joy. (taking another on line course anyway as I went)
Google cockpit photos of different models.
Went up from P-26 to P-39's, no joy.
It's a single prop (variable pitch as it mentions checking it)
Fuel boost, so it's not gravity fed and has an extra pump in the tank.
Tabs and flaps
Carbureted, so it's a piston model not turbine.
P-51 has engine checklists on right hand side, (not illuminated)

An aviator fan will kick in shortly.
Neat piece.

#4 on the landing side is very important not to forget...during landing :D
