EVER C-47 NOTICE/

Post by Joe Gopan » Tue Dec 24, 2019 2:27 am

Take a look at wartime photos of the C-47. Note that the windows had holes in them in order to fire your pistol or rifle thru.

Sounds like a great idea to me.
After spending the better part of a year in the South Vietnam jungles, I was going home.
Got on a 707 in Cam Rhan Bay. Taxied out to the departure runway and sat there for quite a while. ???
Finally the Captain came on the intercom and announced the delay was because departing aircraft were receiving ground fire on take off. A squad had been sent out to clear the area.
Never felt so helpless in my life !!
There I sat with a plane full of seasoned combat vets and no one had a weapon or a way to return fire, even if we did.
We were just a plane load of sitting ducks !
We were finally cleared for take off and when the aircraft cleared the coast, the captain came on the intercom and announced, " We were no longer in South Vietnam. "
I was a little worried that the aircraft would be able to stand up to the celebration !
