The other aircraft was a Bell, P-63 KingCobra. Before the video is taken down: https://www.google.com/search?q=plane+c ... ERTwlOgcGk

Tragic on every level. Been around lots of air shows and can see just how easily this could happen. Prayers for all family and friends involved!

It appears the Cobra went through the mid fuselage section of the B17, the B17 then hit the deck within 2 seconds after being cut in half, it was low. The Cobra disintegrated when it hit coming from around 7' O'clock behind and slightly above on the port side of the B17.
Not sure if the B17 had passengers aboard at this point, but rules likely didn't allow them onboard.
Terrible loss on so many levels.

Been a pilot for 52 years and one thing I know.
Flying is unforgiving.
Mistakes come with a price.
I could speculate all day on what happened but will never know.
One thing for sure.
This time, the end was tragic.

Not a pilot, and don't want to be, but they did have an explanation that I saw. The pilot of the small plane sits directly over the wings, and the nose is very long, so he can't see below the plane, And he was coming into a turn to go back around over the field, and had his wings vertical, (banking?), so he could not see the bomber at all. Total of 6 died.

I've seen another photo which shows the upper portion of the fuselage of the B-17 was opened forward of the top turret, which means that the impact went into the flight deck. Seeing that and the damages to the wait gun positions (where the two spotters likely were at the time), well, you can figure out what I mean there.W. I just hope it was quick and they had no idea.
