Was hoping to use photos and experiences provided by surviving crewmembers that would be helpful on a restoration of a XM706E1 (V100)

A little too late to the party maybe?

Best bet might be to try and get on Vietnam war facebook groups. There might even be a group for the 504th.

Thank you, I'm looking there as well. I know there's a lot of folks who doesn't do facebook for any number of reasons, and figure any success in this project will probably happen as a result of word of mouth, if at all. The unfortunate part is that when I usually post something I have modified, repowered or upgraded, folks literally come out of the woodwork to offer their opinions about what I did wrong but when I am putting effort into laying the groundwork for a proper restoration...crickets.

Among the field modifications performed on vehicles in Vietnam was the addition of a weapon mount from a M113 cupola to the V100 turret as seen in the attached picture. The V100 we will be restoring actually had this modification as the mounting locations are still intact, and we are in the process of finding a mount.

I've run into a few crew members over the years at larger car shows. Great stories and big grins when they got to drive or ride in their old crew position again. Should of gotten their names and contact info.

wgtactical, glad you found some use for my old V pic. i took that in 1970, just before the 199th folded their tents and headed back to benning. i was in HHC MP's at the time. it would be great to have one more ride in an old V, but realistically, i don't see it happening. they were fun to drive.

Thank you for providing it Ron. As Austringer mentioned, he has a V100 too. I know he's taken it to some shows and even had veterans climb aboard and either pilot it or occupy a crew station they were all too familiar with for that "stroll down memory lane"

Hopefully you will find some reason to be in Georgia and we will be able to get you behind the wheel again.

I suppose I would have thought that there were more veterans, or at least friends or acquaintances of veterans who might be able to contribute to the topic. Unfortunately time doesn't stop and wait for anyone.

I really think you should pull the dog of an engine (361 V8) and put a 4BT in it's place with an Allison transmission. That should get some people talking. :-) Or even better a 6V72T Detroit Diesel.

I was able to locate one soldier that had lost property in this vehicle back in 1970 and was able to finally lay eyes on it again within the last several weeks. Really neat story but that will have to wait for another day since editing posts here has a tight time limit. Anyway if anyone has any V100 photos with this particular vehicle anywhere in the photo, I would like to talk with you. This nose art (Blood Sweat and Tears) was revealed in 1988 during sanding and was carefully preserved 1:1 by being traced on DuPont film. Image

At first glance, I thought I may have stumbled upon a picture of Blood Sweat and Tears. The color and shapes of the letters looked familiar...

So the search continues

I had my daughter edit the earlier picture in an effort to make it look more like it probably did 1969-70 while with the 504th in Vietnam. Hopefully if there are any Vietnam veterans who may have crossed paths with this V100, this photo might jog their memory.Image
