The u-shaped bracket on the shovel bracket. Can't say I have seen it before. Wondering if anyone has seen it. Came on a M3A1 I just got.

Re: What is this bracket on a Scout Car
Don't have the answer, but it looks to be a flag holder for the base of a flagstaff perhaps. Are there any holes a few feet above that bracket in a similar width for a top bracket? Signal flags were a popular thing in the late 30s-40s especially for pass in reviews and convoy operations.
Just a thought.

No holes or anything above the strap. This scout is one without the fuel can mounts. Been looking for a few pictures with any flags on them for parades but not finding much with close enough pictures.
