FS: M18 Hellcat Little Joe Fuel Tank

Post by dlevy » Tue May 07, 2019 7:34 pm

Hi All,

For sale is the fuel tank for the Little Joe generator in an M18 Hellcat.

This is an entirely stainless steel reproduction from 304 SS. It is exactly the same outside dimensions as the rubber original and is made with the same radius on all sides just like the original for a perfect fit.

In the last pictures you can see the stainless steel blind PEM fasteners that are welded in place so the screw holes cannot leak. The tank was back-gassed when TIG welded to have good penetration and welds.

It was very challenging to make so I only made two. One is installed in an M18 as you can see, and the other one (unpainted) is for sale.

Cost: $575 + shipping.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

Amazing work- any pictures of how you rolled all the corners with that few number of seams? I would love to do something like that to replace a Weasel rubber fuel tank.

Thanks.

The rolls on all sides is what made it so hard to get it to shape. There is also a lot of welding which causes uneven heating and pulls the metal in every direction making it want to warp so much that it needs a ton of fixtures. The welding alone for this little tank cost me $350 and he's my friend.

It looks really easy to make it until you actually try to do it.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of how it was done. I did it in CAD and even then the bend allowances were unpredictable so I needed to do several trial-and-error cut and bend patterns to get it right.

I made 2, one for a Museum's M18 and the other was a backup in case something happen with the fabrication. Not planning to do it ever again...
