Interesting of an early SC with GSPatton in the front. Note the early star (red white blue) and Patton's ever present vehicular horn modification. Caption indicates Manchester TN, June 1941. Only 30 miles from my new home

Great Signal Corps image taken at Ft. Knox 26 March 1941, 1st Armored Division. Clearly the USA numbers are white not blue drab. THere are a lot of great early equipment details on the troops. Note the tanker's helmets, ww1 slender map case, revolver pistol holster, tire chains, truck air horn on fender.

These are really great pics. I have to scan my picture of a scout car at West Point. I am sure you will appreciated it!

Re: Post Your WW2 Images of US M3A1 Scout Car
Excellent photo posts. Keep them coming
Here is some detail on the crated scout car. I am not quite sure, but the markings on the side look to be Cyrillic and possibly a Russian Lend/Lease shipment. Its very hard to make out without a higher res image. I am not sure the writing is actually on the vehicle itself and may be on the negative of the image. I believe so because the writing on the top row doesn't curve around the door relief and it is horizontal with the bottom of the image and not the angle of the scout car in the crate.
I think the Reg No. is 605515, but there may be a faint '3" after the last 5, but I really don't think so. The rims are type 2 and not combat rims.

More nice detail, Would be great to see what all the symbols meant and if they were specific to a particular unit.

Re: Post Your WW2 Images of US M3A1 Scout Car
This one is really great. Check out the M3 mounted in the back. An M3, 37mm AT gun with no splash shield mounted on some form of pedestal. I suspect it is either experimental or some Division Commander;s idea of how to up-gun his recon troops. Enter the M-8
Now here is a really ambitious project that would garner a lot of "They never made such a thing" comments from the field.

Re: Post Your WW2 Images of US M3A1 Scout Car
Adding fuel cans to the early Lots probably resulted in the later modification of a permanent fuel can storage spot on both sides. It's great to see how necessity and a bit of ingenuity made its way to the production line later.
Based on the Scout Car Data Base, this would be Ord No. 641 and a Lot 2 car. If I did the math correctly

Re: Post Your WW2 Images of US M3A1 Scout Car
I missed the detail on this M3A1 at the White plant under construction. This shows the massive Willard battery.
Does anyone have any info on this particular battery? Does anyone make a repro?

Re: Post Your WW2 Images of US M3A1 Scout Car
Another small detail on the early scout cars was a molded metal plate with the crossed sabers of the Cavalry Branch. I had not noticed this before, but it is eluded to in one of the books. Steve Greenberg had some new ones made a while ago and sold them on the G.
