Hi Clint,

What is odd about 256012's data plate is if 99 was added to the ORD # it looks to be the exact same font at the original stamping from about 12 years before.

Tom,
I'd sure love to know more I've been hoping some others might turn up. I really wished 256117 had still had it's data plate. When I noticed the 1954 tags on the drive axle housings I started looking around and only then noticed the same ACCT99 that was on the front louvers. My guess is they pulled a batch of scout cars out of storage in late 53 or early 54 to rebuild for some purpose and then stamped the 99 at that time. The rebuild tags stated the rebuild took place at T.O.D. and are about the size of a dog tag and riveted to the driveline components.

Perhaps ACCT 99 could be Arctic Cold Climate Test 99 ?

Forgot to add the USA hood number for 256012 was pulled out of thin air by me (6013913). This car is still in Florida with the new owner. This car was originally saved by Earl Colton in Arizona then came to FL with Tom Gordon then to me and now owned by R. Thomas. A lot of the front armor was removed by Tom Gordon for another restoration project. I bought the running chassis and then assembled it from original parts I found over the years and some repo. When Tom found it it had the ACCT99 on the windshield armor. By the time I got it there was no front armor at all except the cowl top not even the cowl sides lol. I bought it in 1987 and sold it in 2012. Earl Colton had a big pile of scout cars and Tom bought the entire batch to get the best one which was the only one with all original armor and skate rail (was last owned by Kevin Kronlund via T. Kaplan). Earl had one other scout car inside his museum/shop that he kept. I've never seen it but have heard it is super nice, unrestored and all there.

I have serial numbers 227462 and 256380. Sort of confused when you say serial number on the block. These are serial numbers on the frame were the serial numbers the same on frame and block? Tanks, John Ayres

Hi guys,
If you guys could, could you enter my M3A1 S/N 257973 and Ordnance Number 6015898 into the database? She was found unrestored in Upstate NY, with complete original armor and welded Skate rail. I am unable to upload pics as of right now, however I will as soon as possible, we have stripped her completely and are ready for sandblasting. I have been meaning to enter her into the database since we picked her up a few months ago, but time always flies! It is truly amazing going from restoring my M16 MGMC to the SC, and it is very interesting to see the small details that are both similar and very different.

Hello,
Recently purchased a lot 1 scout car. From what I can tell it could be the earliest in the U.S.
According to your data base. Could anyone give me any information on this?
Serial # 219719 ord# 324

Thanks!

Congrats on that nice find. Ord#320 is in the UK and the owner posted some pictures of it on the Scout Car facebook page just a few days ago. Love to see a picture or two of #324. So per the list definitely the oldest known in the USA. I have the data plate for 321 which is the only thing left of it. It would be cool if a sub-100 ord# showed up some day. Does it still have the two piece front fenders? Those were only used on Lot 1.

Thanks for the info. It does have the split fendersand holes in the cowl armor for the spot lights.
I picked it up in Washington but originally came from Boise. It was parked at the museum at gowen field .
It would be nice to find out some history on it.
Thanks again for the help,

I just remembered that Hayes O. in Montana has a complete Lot 1 that still has the spotlights. I don't think it is listed in the database. It was at one of the national shows in the 80's. Somewhere I have a couple of snap shots of it. I've noticed there seem to be more early cars in that neck of the woods, Idaho, Montana, etc. and Ord#321 was in Wyoming. A fairly complete diesel scout car car came out of Idaho a couple of years ago.
