Pinzgauer Engine Replacement

Post by dpcd67 » Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:15 am

A friend got a 1973 Pinzgauer 4X4 without an engine. None. Is there a suitable drop in replacement, or something that will fit with some mods? The original engine was destroyed for some unknown reason. I mean in the US.
It would be nice if an L134 flathead would fit; got lots of those!

if you cant get a original engine i would look at a mercedes 240 or 300d diesel.omc616 or omc617 .they are cheap and are super reliable.

Thanks; we will check those out.
You are right! eBay is full of them. Is the 240 a drop in? Is it air cooled? I will have to help my friend do this (meaning I do all the work).
And I don't think anything I know about jeeps translates to Pinzgauers.

no the omc mercedes is water cooled so it would be a pain. the deutz tractors have a air cooled diesel. also deutz power packs which are great motors. if it was me i would exhaust the option of finding a correct engine before thinking a swap. I see lots of swap chater on some overseas sites.

Ok; good advice. I think my friend now has a big green boat anchor, which actually would float.

You could try Swiss Army Vehicles. Closer to you in Fayetteville AR or perhaps Goatworks in CA
