I purchased a GPW with a MB block and have it torn down and restoring it. I am looking to put a GPW block back in it.
I have a good MB engine that has been cleaned and magnafluzed.

107682. Crazy thing the block is a MB but has a GPW number in the oval boss.

Re: Trade good MB block for GPW block
Ford used Wilson foundry blocks, here is one, Nothing wrong with using this in your gpw, In this case the gpw in front of the serial number makes it great for a gpw, not so good for a slatty. Since the oil pan is off, what is the date code on the blocks oil pan gasket surface

Re: Trade good MB block for GPW block
Curious, what’s the casting date on this block?
Ford used Wilson foundry blocks to supplement their own production up to at least very late 1943. You have a Wilson foundry block with a 100% original Ford engine shop applied GPW serial number stamped on it. This motor was originally installed into GPW-107682 at the factory!
My matching numbers GPW-108552 has a Ford cast GPW block installed.
I have GPW motor # 2263 and it’s a Ford cast block, while GPW block # 2273 owned by a friend is a Wilson block.
I also have GPW block # 5264 and it’s a Ford cast block.
I also have GPW motor # 174593 and it’s a factory installed Wilson block, casting date 12-14.
You can see that Wilson blocks were sporadically used in production, especially after the first thousand or two GPWs produced early on which probably all had Wilson blocks installed before Ford started introducing their own cast blocks into production. Absolutely nothing wrong with having a Ford factory GPW serialized Wilson Foundry block installed in your GPW! It’s a nice block to have!

Re: Trade good MB block for GPW block
Nice, so it was machined in March of 1943. I bet the casting date is a few days before the machining date.
Are you going to keep this engine or are you still interested in trading for a purely “Ford” block? What is the serial number of the GPW you are restoring? I may have a block which might be closer to your frame #. I have several GPW blocks, so please let me know.
