WTB WW2 generator

Post by hobigusn » Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:20 am

Now that I’ve learned all about A circuit and B circuit, I’m on the hunt for a WW2 generator to work with my voltage regulator. GEG-5001a, GEG-5002D or GEG-5101D. Thank you.

Where are you located? The last one I bought cost me $100 to ship (from Maine to Texas).

Michigan. I don’t have a core to return so buying one online is $500+.

Hopefully enough room for lots of packaging.

No room for packing between the pulley and box, it will break if they drop it, wont cover for insurance since there is not 2 inches of packing around unit. I still ship them this way when buyer insists, telling them they are on their own if it breaks.

Nope its a large flat rate, insuring is no problem, collecting is. post a pic of it in the box.

I just check his website. No generators. How long ago were you there. Maybe I’ll call.

Adam, you are totally correct.

I would never ship in a flat rate. When I rebuild and send out generators, I use a 1/2 plywood box built for the job. The box measures 13x8x8 (exterior) with a total shipping weight (with the generator) is 36lbs. The generator fits perfect inside and cardboard or other thin padding is all that I use. I have sent out well over 100 units in the last 10years and I have never had one damaged. Shipping is very expensive, CA to NY is about $95 (UPS/USPS). That is why people gamble with flat rate shipping.

With flat rate, about half the time they are delivered damaged. Its mostly the rear mounting tab, or the pulley that gets busted. I can braise them back together, but its better to shop them more carefully.

I have had guys send generators to me completely dissembled in 2 flat rate boxes and that works fine. I only return ship with the generator built and in my own box.

For anyone who wants a generator, at this time, I am all out of cores. I will buy cores, I usually pay $75-$125 per core.

I do rebuilds, but they are really restorations/rebuilds and my price is higher than Rons (with customer supplied cores). I also rebuild without altering the exterior appearance for those with "barn find" jeeps. They appear new inside, old outside.
